Care Guidelines Setup

On the Care Guidelines Setup template, you can set up the guidelines test items. Care guidelines consist of orderable items (previously known as protocols) and recommended care items. Some guideline items are performed within a specific time interval, indicated by a date in the Due column. Items with due dates are ordered, and items without a due date are listed as a reminder to review them with the patient and update their status without having to place orders. Before you use the Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines templates, you must review and ensure that the guidelines that come with the application meet the needs of the practice. For configuration, care guidelines are divided into orderable and recommended items. Using the Care Guidelines Setup practice template, you can set up orderable items. Configure Orders for Specific Medication Guidelines

You can configure an order for the created guideline to be triggered for the specific medication. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Select Care Guidelines Setup, and then select OK.The Care Guidelines Setup template opens. In the Intervention/Order Setup panel, select Medication for Reason type. In Condition/Reason, select the created guideline reason. In Intervention/Test type, select instructions. Enter an intervention or test name, and then select a standard interval for the guideline. Select Add. Select Save & Close.The guideline reason and order are saved, and the Care Guidelines Setup template closes. Open the Medication Specific Template

You can set up specific medications for a patient chart in the Medication Specific template. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Configure Medication Guidelines

You can define various medication guidelines by using the Care Guidelines Setup template. You can define a guideline based on specific medications so that the guideline is triggered when the diagnosis meets specific criteria. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Select Care Guidelines Setup, and then select OK.The Care Guidelines Setup template opens. In Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application, enter a guideline condition or reason. In Reason type, select Medication. Select the Auto-apply checkbox. Note: You must select the Auto-apply checkbox to turn on the Gender, Start age, Stop age, and Reason group fields. Otherwise, you must manually apply the guideline to patients during the encounter workflow. A guideline set to Auto-apply does not apply to diagnoses with an Inactive or Resolved status. Setting Up Care Guidelines for Use

You can set up the care guidelines for a patient and document the details on the Care Guidelines template. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Care Guidelines template is used to handle Health Maintenance and Disease Management functions, including guideline testing and screening, and recommended care. You can open the Care Guidelines template using the Care Guidelines link, in the top navigation tabs of all the main tabbed templates for every specialty. CAUTION: Before using the Care Guidelines template in a clinical setting with patients, content on the template should be carefully reviewed by the individuals who are responsible for maintaining the system. You can update as necessary to meet the needs of the practice. Care Guidelines link is always available on the Care Guidelines template. Set Up Specific Medications

You can set up specific medications for a patient under care using the Care Guidelines Setup template. You can configure a specific medication to trigger a care guideline by setting up the Reason Group and Medication fields. The other fields are optional. Note: For medication, if you add more fields, the system filters the data to a greater specificity. The guideline is triggered when all of these values match. Only active medications trigger a guideline initially. If the medication is discontinued, the guideline exists until it is manually turned off on the Care Guidelines template.
