Configure Medication Guidelines

You can define various medication guidelines by using the Care Guidelines Setup template. You can define a guideline based on specific medications so that the guideline is triggered when the diagnosis meets specific criteria. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Select Care Guidelines Setup, and then select OK.The Care Guidelines Setup template opens. In Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application, enter a guideline condition or reason. In Reason type, select Medication. Select the Auto-apply checkbox. Note: You must select the Auto-apply checkbox to turn on the Gender, Start age, Stop age, and Reason group fields. Otherwise, you must manually apply the guideline to patients during the encounter workflow. A guideline set to Auto-apply does not apply to diagnoses with an Inactive or Resolved status. Open the Medication Specific Template

You can set up specific medications for a patient chart in the Medication Specific template. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Set Up Specific Medications

You can set up specific medications for a patient under care using the Care Guidelines Setup template. You can configure a specific medication to trigger a care guideline by setting up the Reason Group and Medication fields. The other fields are optional. Note: For medication, if you add more fields, the system filters the data to a greater specificity. The guideline is triggered when all of these values match. Only active medications trigger a guideline initially. If the medication is discontinued, the guideline exists until it is manually turned off on the Care Guidelines template. Add Medications in the Medications Module

You can add required medication details in the Medications module to make the details appear in the Care Guidelines Paged View template. Before you begin To view medication specific details in the Care Guidelines template, you need to add a problem and medication details for the patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open a patient chart, and create an encounter. Open the Medications module. In Find, search for any medication entered in the Medication Specific template, and select the medication.The Select button is turned on. Select Select, select Edit Sig, and enter the dosage details. Add Dosage Complete the prescribing details. Add quantity and refill Select a problem, and then select Accept. Important: Ensure that the details you add in the Medications module match the details in the Medication Specific template. The medication details appear in the grid. Add Problems to the Problems Module

You can add a problem to the Problem module to make the relevant details appear in the Care Guidelines Paged View template. Before you begin To view medication specific details in the Care Guidelines template, you need to add a problem and medication details for the patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open a patient chart, and create an encounter. Open the Problems module. Select Add ICD. Select a category, and then search for and select an ICD code relevant to the indication selected in the Medication Specific template.The details appear in the grid. View Medication Specific Details in the Care Guidelines Paged View Template

You can view the medication specific details in the Care Guidelines Paged View template. Before you begin You must configure an order for the created medication guideline, and add a problem and the medication details to view the medication specific details in the Care Guidelines Paged Viewtemplate. In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, select Open Template for an encounter.The Select Template window opens. Select All, and then select Care Guidelines Paged View. Care Guidelines Paged View template The configured medication details appear. Select Refresh if the configured medication details are not available.The details configured in the Medications module must match the values in the Medication Specific template for the guidelines to appear in the Care Guidelines Paged View template.
