Charge Discounts

You can apply discounts to the charges for an encounter from the Charge Posting window in NextGen® Enterprise PM. You can enable Discounts in the Practice Preferences window by selecting Enable discounts in charge entry and Apply patient discount to patient balance only options on the Charge Entry tab. When this functionality is enabled, you can open the Discounts window and select the following for each encounter. You can select Discount Adjustment Code to apply discounts to charges. You can select Encounter to apply discount adjustment to all charges on the encounter or Line Item to apply discount adjustment only for selected charges on the encounter for the Discount Level. You can select By Percentage when the discount amount is in percentage of the total charge amount or Line Item when you apply the discount adjustment only for selected charges on the encounter for the Discount Method. After selecting Discount Adjustment Code, Discount Level, and Discount Method, the system applies

Charge Entry Operation

Subgroup Used in Description Apply Charge Discount NextGen® Enterprise PM Enables users to access the Charge Discount screen from Charge Entry. Enter Dental Charges

Open NextGen® Enterprise PM, and then select Charges. The Charge Posting window opens. Select the desired patient and encounter. Do one of the following: To add a charge, select New. To modify a charge, select the charge and then select Open. In the Svc Dates fields, enter the service date range for the charge. These fields default to the Billable Date, when you select it on the Encounter Maintenance window. Select Svc Item, and then enter the applicable dental service item. The Unit and Override fields default to the price from the SIM Library. The Extended field is calculated as (Quantity x Override = Extended) and displays the total price for the charge. Select Modifier, and then enter up to four modifiers for the charge. Select Quantity, and then enter the desired quantity. The Quantity field defaults to 1. Charge Entry Options

The following table describes the options available on the Charges tab of the Charge Entry Practice Preferences. Field Description Prevent charge rendering physician modifications after practice closing Select this option to prevent users from changing a charge's rendering physician if the charge was created before the closing date. Note that the charge create date does not have to be the encounter date; a charge can be added after practice closing and the rendering does not lock down until the practice closes again. You can still add a rendering physician if no rendering physician has been entered for the charge. Prevent charge referring physician modifications after practice closing Select this check box to prevent users from changing the charge's referring provider on an encounter after practice closing. Charge Posting Additional Fields

When enabled, additional fields appear on the Charge Posting window. One or more of these fields may be needed for specific types of billing. The following additional fields are available. Field Description Settings Tooth Selects a tooth for a dental charge. Practice Preferences > Charge Entry > Display tooth, surface, quadrant. Add or Modify Session Settings

Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. Select Tasks, and then select Session Settings. The Session Settings window opens. In Active Batch field select an existing transaction batch or select <Create Quick Batch> to create a transaction batch for the current login session. The selected batch is used as the active batch for all transactions (payments, adjustments, and refunds) you enter during your current login session. In the Service Date field, enter a preset service date for the current login session. The preset date appears in the Billable Date field on the Create Encounter window for all new encounters you create during your current login session. The preset date also appears in the Service Date fields on the Charge Posting window for all charges you enter during your current login session.
