Creating Subsequent Encounters in a Series

When creating a subsequent encounter in a series for a patient who is set up for recurring billing, the UB Encounters window opens because an existing encounter is flagged as an initial encounter and it does not have a discharge date. The Copy Forward button on this window enables you to link subsequent encounters in the same series to the initial encounter. Single Encounter in a Series

The single encounter in a series must also be set up at the encounter level. A single encounter setup results in only one encounter in the series. After the encounter is set up and billed, the billing process automatically populates the fields related to recurring billing on the UB tab of the Encounter Maintenance window. The initial encounter in a series must also be set up at the encounter level. Create and Bill the Final Encounter

When creating the final encounter in a series for a patient for recurring billing, the UB Encounters window opens to enable you to link the final encounter to the initial encounter. From the Encounters tab on the patient's chart, select the open menu button and select New. The UB Encounters window opens. Highlight the encounter that displays the initial encounter and select the Copy Forward button. The Create Encounter window opens. Note: The copy forward function copies the values from the Onset Date, Occurrence Codes, and Value Codes from the initial encounter to the new encounter. The encounter is identified in the application as the final encounter in the series, because the billable date is different from the onset date and the discharge is the same as the billable date. Enter the date the patient is discharged from therapy in the Discharge Date field. This field is required for the final encounter in the series.
