Initial Encounter in a Series

The initial encounter in a series must also be set up at the encounter level. After the encounter is set up and billed, the billing process automatically populates the fields related to recurring billing on the UB tab of the Encounter Maintenance window. Single Encounter in a Series

The single encounter in a series must also be set up at the encounter level. A single encounter setup results in only one encounter in the series. After the encounter is set up and billed, the billing process automatically populates the fields related to recurring billing on the UB tab of the Encounter Maintenance window. Final Encounter in a Series

The procedures for creating the final encounter in a series for a patient who is set up for recurring billing are the same as for a subsequent encounter, except a discharge date is entered to signal the end of the series. Create and Bill Subsequent Encounters

When creating a subsequent encounter in a series for a patient for recurring billing, the UB Encounters window opens to enable you to link the subsequent encounters to the initial encounter. From the Encounters tab on the patient's chart, select the open menu button and select New. The UB Encounters window opens. Highlight the encounter that displays the initial encounter and select the Copy Forward button. Note: There can be more than one recurring cycle at the same time. Be sure to highlight the correct encounter for the cycle you are adding to. For example, there may be a recurring cycle for physical and speech therapy after a stroke. If you want to create a new encounter that is not part of the recurring cycle, use the New button. The Create Encounter window opens. The copy forward function copies the values from the Onset Date, Occurrence Codes, and Value Codes from the initial encounter to the new encounter. The encounter is identified in the application as a subsequent encounter
