When creating a subsequent encounter in a series for a patient for recurring billing, the UB Encounters window opens to enable you to link the subsequent encounters to the initial encounter.
- From the Encounters tab on the patient's chart, select the open menu
button and select New.
The
UB Encounters window opens.
- Highlight the encounter that displays the initial encounter and select the Copy Forward button.
Note: There can be more than one recurring cycle at the same time. Be sure to highlight the correct encounter for the cycle you are adding to. For example, there may be a recurring cycle for physical and speech therapy after a stroke.
If you want to create a new encounter that is not part of the recurring cycle, use the New button.
The
Create Encounter window opens.
The copy forward function copies the values from the Onset Date, Occurrence Codes, and Value Codes from the initial encounter to the new encounter. The encounter is identified in the application as a subsequent encounter in the series, because the billable date is different from the onset date and the discharge is blank.
- Select OK.
- Add the appropriate charges and bill the encounter.
After the billing process is complete, the subsequent claim for each encounter in the series is generated.
