Single Encounter in a Series

The single encounter in a series must also be set up at the encounter level. A single encounter setup results in only one encounter in the series. After the encounter is set up and billed, the billing process automatically populates the fields related to recurring billing on the UB tab of the Encounter Maintenance window. Creating Subsequent Encounters in a Series

When creating a subsequent encounter in a series for a patient who is set up for recurring billing, the UB Encounters window opens because an existing encounter is flagged as an initial encounter and it does not have a discharge date. The Copy Forward button on this window enables you to link subsequent encounters in the same series to the initial encounter. Final Encounter in a Series

The procedures for creating the final encounter in a series for a patient who is set up for recurring billing are the same as for a subsequent encounter, except a discharge date is entered to signal the end of the series. View the Initial Encounter After Billing

During the billing process, an Initial Encounter ID is assigned to the encounter to identify it as the first encounter in a series. Set Up and Bill an Initial Encounter

When creating an encounter for recurring billing, you must set up the encounter to activate the automated billing for the initial encounter. On the Patient's Chart highlight the initial encounter and double-click. The Encounter Maintenance window opens. Enter the date the illness/injury began in the Onset Date field. This is a required field for the initial encounter for recurring billing. On the General tab, under the Encounter Types field, enable the Initial Enc in Series check box. Note: This field displays only when the Type of Facility and Bill Classification fields are set up in Practice Preferences. Select OK. Add the appropriate charges. Note: The revenue codes, which are attached to service items, must be set up before posting charges on the Charge Posting window in order for recurring UB billing to be recognized.
