Initial Encounter in a Series

The initial encounter in a series must also be set up at the encounter level. After the encounter is set up and billed, the billing process automatically populates the fields related to recurring billing on the UB tab of the Encounter Maintenance window. Single Encounter in a Series

The single encounter in a series must also be set up at the encounter level. A single encounter setup results in only one encounter in the series. After the encounter is set up and billed, the billing process automatically populates the fields related to recurring billing on the UB tab of the Encounter Maintenance window. Creating Subsequent Encounters in a Series

When creating a subsequent encounter in a series for a patient who is set up for recurring billing, the UB Encounters window opens because an existing encounter is flagged as an initial encounter and it does not have a discharge date. The Copy Forward button on this window enables you to link subsequent encounters in the same series to the initial encounter. Final Encounter in a Series

The procedures for creating the final encounter in a series for a patient who is set up for recurring billing are the same as for a subsequent encounter, except a discharge date is entered to signal the end of the series. Recurring UB Billing

Recurring UB billing is a process that enables you to indicate a treatment plan by linking claims using onset date, discharge date, default value code, and occurrence codes. These values are then copied forward from one encounter to the next. Default value and occurrence codes, which are set up in the Revenue Codes master file, automatically post to the encounter during billing if recurring billing is enabled. For the interim and final claims in the series, the onset date, value codes, and occurrence codes can be copied forward from the initial encounter. Recurring billing is used for billing a series of visits for the following therapies: Physical therapy Speech therapy Occupational therapy Note: The application currently works only for the revenue codes that represent the above therapies.
