Key	Enter a standard abbreviation for the dosage instructions. If you are adding a new SIG Code, enter a unique key.
Description	Enter a full description.

Select a SIG

After you enter the required medication information, you must select a SIG. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and access the Medications module. Select a medication. Enter all required medication information. Select or build a SIG. The selected SIG is automatically assigned to the medication. If the SIG contains more characters than the display allows, the text is truncated. If you hover the cursor over the truncated text, a tooltip displays the complete SIG. If the SIG exceeds the 140-character maximum for electronic prescriptions, an alert appears next to the SIG text. Select a SIG You can change the quantity and the interval of the medication by either typing the values or using the arrows to select the appropriate values. Zip Codes

The ZIP Codes master file contains detailed information that is updated regularly. You can create additional ZIP Codes if they do not already exist by creating them: in the master file. on the fly while you are entering patient or person information in an application such as NextGen® Enterprise PM. This master file saves you time during data entry because when you enter an existing ZIP Code for an address, the associated information (city, state, country, and county) automatically fills in for the remaining fields. To maintain ZIP Codes: Open the list of master files. Select ZIP Codes. The Zip Codes List window appears. Do one of the following: To add a new item, select Open Menu , and then selectNew. To modify an existing item, select the item in the list, select Open Menu , and then select Open. You can also double-click to open the item. The Add/Modify ZIP Code Information window opens. Select a Pediatric SIG Code

Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and open the medication module. Select a medication. Enter the required medication information. Do one of the following: Hover over Add Sig. Select Add Sig. Select the automatically populated SIG Code. The most commonly used Pediatric SIG from First Data Bank appears. Pediatric SIG Clear the Common Sigs check box to display all available SIG codes. Available SIG codes If no pediatric SIG Code for the selected medication exists, select Calculator to display the Pediatric Dosing Calculator window. Note: The pediatric calculator may be unavailable for multi-ingredient medications being prescribed to a pediatric patient. Select one or more of the following: All Once 2 Times 3 Times 4 Times Select a SIG Code or manually build a Pediatric SIG Code. Medication Reasons

NextGen® Enterprise EHR uses the Medication Reasons master file as a repository for the reasons that a medication is being prescribed in the Medications Module. This reason becomes part of the Sig for the prescribed medication. File Maintenance includes a default list of reasons, but you can add custom reasons. To add a medication reason: From the Master Files > System, select Medication Reasons. The Medications Reasons List window opens. From the list, do one of the following: To add a new item, select Open Menu , and then select New. To modify an item, select the item in the list, select Open Menu , and then select Open. In the Add/Modify Medication Reasons Information window, enter the name of the reason in the Medication Reason Description field and, if necessary, enter a Note. For the reasons that were installed by default, the Note field displays the text System Generated. Add a Medication

Click Add under the Medications grid. The Medications Module opens. On the Medications Module, click Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Type the name in the Find field. As you type additional letters, the search is refined to match what you have entered. Double-click on the medication to add it to the Selected Medications grid. If the drug has any counter indications or interactions with other medications, or specifics of how it can be purchased or prescribed, a dialog box opens for you to acknowledge those. Once you have added all medications, click Select. This enters the medications in the Medications Module. Enter the Sig, Quantity, Refills, and Start date from the corresponding list. If applicable, select the Prescribed elsewhere check box. Click Accept. Click the X in the upper right of the window to close the Medications Module. Diagnosis Categories Search

From the Master Files - System list, select Diagnosis Categories. The Diagnosis Categories List window opens. To add a new diagnosis category, select Open Menu , then select New. To search for an existing diagnosis category to modify, follow the steps below: In the List Search field, enter what you want to search for. The matching results are listed. Note: You can enter an asterisk ( * ) to see all the records. Double-click the diagnosis category you want to view. The Add/Modify Diagnosis Category Information window opens. Enter a name for the diagnosis category in the Category field. Enter a four-digit abbreviation for the diagnosis category in the Short Description field. To add an ICD code and description select Open Folder . The ICD Codes window opens. To add a code to the category, select the code in the Available list, then select the Include . The code moves from the Available list to the Included list. If necessary, select either 09 or 10 in the Show field to display only ICD9
