Set Up a New SIM Exception

  1. In File Maintenance, select Libraries menu > Service Items.
    The Service Item Libraries window opens.
  2. Select a Service Item Library.
  3. Select Open Menu.

  4. Select SIM Exceptions from the shortcut menu.
    The SIM Exceptions List window opens.

  5. Select open menu button , and then select New.
    The SIM Exception Maintenance window opens.

  6. Complete the window by entering the exception information. For descriptions of the fields, see SIM Exception Setup Field Descriptions.

  7. If your library has fewer than 50 SIM items, press the TAB key or arrow keys to move to the next SIM item that you want to enter an exception for.
    If your library has 50 or more SIM items, go back to the Type the first number(s) of the SIM item you want to locate field and enter the next SIM item for exception. The SIM item then displays in the spreadsheet area of the window. Continue this process until you enter all the necessary exceptions.
  8. Select OK.
    After you create the SIM exception, assign it to providers at the provider/payer/location level in order to apply the exceptions to charges.
