SIM Exception Setup Field Descriptions

Field	Description
SIM Exception Name	Enter a name for the SIM Exception that describes the group of exceptions. If there are fewer than 50 SIM items defined in the SIM Library, all active SIM items automatically load into the grayed-out section of the spreadsheet area from the SIM Library. If there are more than 50 SIM items defined in the SIM Library, the SIM codes do not automatically load into the spreadsheet. Instead, you must manually enter the SIM code or the first few digits of the code in the Filter Criteria box, which loads the spreadsheet with SIM items that match your entry.
Hide Exception	Select this check box if you want to hide the SIM Exception in the SIM Exceptions List. Note: You can also right-click in the Description area of the SIM Exceptions List, then select Hide.
Type the first number(s) of the SIM item you want to locate	Use this field if you have more than 50 SIM items. Otherwise skip to the next field. Enter the first few numbers of the SIM code until the SIM item displays in the spreadsheet area of the window.
Include Past SIM Items	Select this check box to display all expired SIM items.
Exception SIMs only	Select this check box to only display SIM Exceptions.
SIM Exceptions Amount	Enter the dollar amount for the SIM Exception.
SIM Exceptions POS	Select the drop-down arrow then select the Place of Service for the SIM Exception.
Modifier 1	Enter the first modifier code for the SIM Exception, if applicable.
Modifier 2	Enter the second modifier code for the SIM Exception, if applicable.
Revenue Code	Enter the Revenue code (001-999 in form locator 42) that identifies a specific accommodation, ancillary service, or billing calculation on the UB form.

Set Up a New SIM Exception

In File Maintenance, select Libraries menu > Service Items. The Service Item Libraries window opens. Select a Service Item Library. Select Open Menu. Select SIM Exceptions from the shortcut menu. The SIM Exceptions List window opens. Select open menu button , and then select New. The SIM Exception Maintenance window opens. Complete the window by entering the exception information. For descriptions of the fields, see SIM Exception Setup Field Descriptions. Note: The SIM Exception fields in which you enter the exceptions are located in the spreadsheet section of the dialog box. Use the TAB key or arrow keys to move the insertion point to the applicable cell for your entry. Right-click on a cell to display the shortcut menu, then you can delete an entry by the cell or row. If your library has fewer than 50 SIM items, press the TAB key or arrow keys to move to the next SIM item that you want to enter an exception for. Service Item Library Maintenance Field Descriptions

The following table describe the fields for setting up a Service Item Library. Field Description Search You can search for any specific SIM. If there are less than 50 SIM items defined in the SIM Library, all active SIM items automatically appear in the Search list. If there are more than 50 SIM items defined in the SIM Library, the SIM codes do not appear automatically. You must manually enter the SIM code or the first few digits of the code in the Search field. To find a specific SIM, enter the SIM code. To list all existing SIMs, enter an asterisk. SIM Library Name SIM Library name is a required field. Service Item For a new SIM, you can enter meaningful service item numbers and descriptions to correlate to the appropriate CPT4 code. This field is required. When you search for a SIM, this field displays the SIM that you search for. You can also select the open menu button, select New, and then enter a new service item Number. Tax Exemption Setup for Locations

In File Maintenance, select Libraries > Tax Exemptions. The Tax Exemption List window opens. Select open menu button , and then select New. The Tax Exemption Library window opens. Select the Location tab, and then define which sales tax charges are exempt for the listed SIM codes. In the Tax Exempt SIMs section, select open menu button , and then select New to search for a SIM. The Tax Exempt SIMs Setup window opens. In the Service Item # field, select a SIM code that you want to specify sales tax exemptions for. The associated CPT4 code and description automatically display in the CPT4 Code and Description fields. Enter dates in the Effective Date and Expiration Date fields. Select one or more locations where the SIM has sales tax exemptions. Select in the field below each Tax Exempt field to select which sales taxes the SIM is exempt from. A displays in the field to indicate that the tax does not apply. Select Next to select another SIM and repeat the previous steps or select OK to r

Setting Up an Exception through the SIM Library

In the SIM library, you can create a new SIM exception or modify existing ones. Note: You must set up all SIM Exceptions, Groups, and SIM Exception Groups before you attach them to a provider.
