Printer Aliases

The Printer Aliases master file enables users to create, modify, and delete additional names for printers. These aliases are used with:
  • NextGen® Enterprise EHR for printing and faxing medications and for printing custom Crystal Reports.
  • Chart Tracking for printing reports and labels.
  • NextGen® Optical Management for printing labels.
For NextGen® Enterprise EHR, Chart Tracking, and NextGen® Optical Management, you can select a printer alias as the printer you want to use. If no printer aliases are set up, printing will take place from the default printer of the workstation being used.

To set up a printer alias:

  1. From the Master Files - System list, select Printer Aliases.
    The Printer Alias List window displays. Any existing aliases and their associated printers are listed.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To add a new item, select Open Menu , and then select New.
    • To modify an existing item, select the item in the list, select Open Menu , and then select Open. You can also double-click to open the item.
    The Printer Alias window displays.

  3. Enter the printer information in the following fields.

    Printer AliasEnter a name for the printer.
    Printer NameSelect the printer you want to associate with the alias.
    OrientationSelect Portrait to orient the printed page vertically or select Landscape to orient the printed page horizontally.
    Paper: SizeSelect a paper size.
    Paper: SourceSelect the tray where the paper is located in the printer.
    Print QualitySelect the print quality. The default setting is High.
    Number of CopiesSelect the number of copies to print. The default is one copy.
    Label PrinterIf you use Chart Tracking and the printer is a label printer, select this check box.
  4. Select Next to add another item or select OK to return to the List window.
  5. To delete a printer alias:
    • From the Printer Alias List window, right-click a printer alias, then select Delete.
