Printer Aliases

Field	Description
Printer Alias	Enter a name for the printer.
Printer Name	Select the printer you want to associate with the alias.
Orientation	Select Portrait to orient the printed page vertically or select Landscape to orient the printed page horizontally.
Paper: Size	Select a paper size.
Paper: Source	Select the tray where the paper is located in the printer.
Print Quality	Select the print quality. The default setting is High.
Number of Copies	Select the number of copies to print. The default is one copy.
Label Printer	If you use Chart Tracking and the printer is a label printer, select this check box.

Printer Aliases

The Printer Aliases master file enables users to create, modify, and delete additional names for printers. These aliases are used with: NextGen® Enterprise EHR for printing and faxing medications and for printing custom Crystal Reports. Chart Tracking for printing reports and labels. NextGen® Optical Management for printing labels. For NextGen® Enterprise EHR, Chart Tracking, and NextGen® Optical Management, you can select a printer alias as the printer you want to use. If no printer aliases are set up, printing will take place from the default printer of the workstation being used. To set up a printer alias: From the Master Files - System list, select Printer Aliases. The Printer Alias List window displays. Any existing aliases and their associated printers are listed. Do one of the following: To add a new item, select Open Menu , and then select New. To modify an existing item, select the item in the list, select Open Menu , and then select Open. Set Up a Printer

If you do not set up or select a printer, your portal report is printed using the default printer. From the NextGen® Enterprise EHR File menu, select Reports > Crystal Reports. On the Report Dialog window, select Report Setup. The Report Setup window opens. Select Printer Setup. From the Printer Name list, select a printer. In the Alias field, enter a printer name. Set up Print Report Trigger

The Print Report action can be triggered to automatically generate and print a specific Crystal Report from a template. You can select options to: Preview the report before printing it. Print the report on a default printer. Print the report from a non-production database using the NextGen® Report Server. Print and save the report to the patient's chart in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Generate and save the report to the patient's chart without printing it. Note: The report name cannot exceed 128 characters, including spaces. Printing Practice Preferences

The Printing Practice Preferences enables you to set printing defaults for documents that are used in NextGen® Enterprise PM. You can store printer settings at the practice level for NextGen documents and reports and for user-configured documents such as labels and forms. The settings include orientation, printer source, paper size, and number of copies. Each document type can have its own default printer setting. Instead of the users manually changing the print settings each time they print a different item, the default print settings are used for each document type being printed. Printer settings can also be set at the user level. The defaults set at the user level override the defaults at the practice level. If a user does not have user-level printer settings, the practice-level settings apply when the user prints a document. Note: Users can still change the settings at the time of printing.
