Providers ePrescribing Tab

On the ePrescribing tab of the Modify Provider Information window, you can enter electronic prescription data that is specifically used in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. You can enroll providers in retail and mail-order electronic prescribing networks and determine the service levels they are enrolled in. Networks This section enables you to enroll a provider in the retail and mail order programs. It also displays the values for the enrollment settings for the retail and mail order programs. Setting Value Status Displays whether the provider is Enrolled or Not Enrolled in the program. Enrollment Date Displays the date of the provider's enrollment. ePCS Service Level for Pharmacies and Providers

To send controlled substances to electronic prescribing networks, both the provider and the pharmacy must meet the criteria set by Surescripts and the DEA. The pharmacies are set up outside of the NextGen applications and downloaded into File Maintenance. You must set up the providers to meet the criteria. To check whether a pharmacy supports ePCS: In File Maintenance, select Master Files > Pharmacies. In the Retail Service Level section, the ePCS check box is selected if the pharmacy supports ePCS. Electronically Submit a Prescription

In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, open the Medications module. Select a medication. On the medication details toolbar, select Send. Note: If the pharmacy associated with the medication is hidden, a message appears with an option to select another pharmacy. The Send Prescription window opens. For multiple medications, all associated pharmacies must be active before you can send the medications. Only providers who are enrolled in ePrescribing and assigned a Surescripts Provider Identifier (SPI) can submit prescriptions electronically. If you are not enrolled, a message appears indicating that no SPI is allocated. You can contact your system administrator to check your enrollment details and see the Select a Supervising Physician section in File Maintenance. Optional: To remove a hidden pharmacy message from the Alerts section, select a destination pharmacy that is not hidden in the Destination field or through the Manage Patient Pharmacies link. Resolve Issues

You must resolve all issues to use ePrescribing with NextGen® Enterprise EHR, 8 and to migrate to the Surescripts 2017071 compatible standard. All potential enrollment issues must be resolved before using ePrescribing. Log on to File Maintenance. From Master Files, select System > EHR. Select Providers. The Providers List window opens. Double-click the provider. The Modify Provider Information window opens. Select the appropriate tab and add or modify the information as necessary to resolve all potential issues associated with Surescripts migration to the latest standard. Select the ePrescribing tab. Ensure that the provider has all applicable Retail Service Levels selected. In the Networks section, select open menu . Select Retail > Enroll. ePrescribing Medications

The ePrescribing feature enables you to electronically prescribe and submit prescriptions directly to selected pharmacies. NextGen Healthcare has collaborated with several third-party ePrescribing providers, such as Surescripts® and MediMedia®, to integrate the ePrescribing feature. These third parties provide medication data and communicate with certified pharmacies. Note: User-defined medications are not supported with Surescripts. If you integrate the ePrescribing feature, it enables you to check a patient's eligibility, electronically communicate with a pharmacy and submit a patient's prescriptions, and to authorize or decline refill requests. In addition, the ePrescribing feature enables you to search for medications using the formulary search and check a patient's medication history. Pharmacy Download

After you enable ePrescribing and secure communications, you must download retail and mail-order pharmacies that are enrolled with the Surescripts network. All of the pharmacies you download are added to your Pharmacies master file. These pharmacies are available to providers enrolled with Surescripts to send prescriptions electronically in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. You can search for pharmacies to download using the following search types: Use single or multiple criteria: You select how many pharmacies to download. Search according to distance from a ZIP code: Downloads all search results. To electronically communicate with a pharmacy using the ePrescribing feature, the pharmacy must be a certified member of the Surescripts network and added to your list of pharmacies. Surescripts updates pharmacy information on a regular, usually daily, basis.
