Enable a Provider to Send ePCS

In File Maintenance, select Master Files > Providers > ePrescribing tab. Make sure the following fields are completed on the tabs listed. They are required for the ePCS service level: EHR tab: Practice Name Demographics tab: First Name, Last Name, Street, City, State, Zip, Phone, Fax, E-mail Address Practice tab: DEA Number (must be a valid DEA number or blank) System tab: National Provider ID Note: The address fields cannot contain a PO Box. In the Retail Service Level section, make sure the New Rx and Refill Request check boxes are selected, and then select the ePCS check box. Electronic Prescriptions with SureScripts

The SureScripts Electronic Prescribing Network enables providers and pharmacies to share prescription information. The preparation for electronically sending prescriptions to a pharmacy include: Downloading a list of participating pharmacies from SureScripts for use in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Adding service levels to a pharmacy. Enrolling providers in the SureScripts network. This process generates a SureScripts Provider Identifier Number (SPI). Set Up Provider ePCS Retail Service Level

You must set up a provider's retail service level for ePCS so that the provider can electronically prescribe controlled substances. In File Maintenance, from Master Files > System, select Providers. The Providers List window opens. Double-click a provider. The Modify Provider Information window opens. In the Modify Provider Information window, select the ePrescribing tab. In the Retail Service Level section, select ePCS. In the Networks section, select open menu, select Retail then Update. The eRx Message Submission window opens. Select OK. Before you begin Before you use the NextGen® Enterprise EHR ePrescribing feature, the following ePrescribing setup procedures must be completed: Install NextGen® Communication Services (NCS). Enable Surescripts functionality in NCS. Note: Before you attempt to set up ePrescribing, you must contact NextGen Healthcare Support to install and configure NCS. ePCS Setup

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) allows DEA registrants to write Electronic Prescriptions of Controlled Substances (ePCS). To control who can send these electronic prescriptions, the System Administrator application meets the DEA regulations that determine how applications and practices are to restrict eRx access rights. These measures rely on identity-proofing to prevent fraud.
