Create Encounters

You can create an encounter using the default current date or you can select an earlier date. You cannot create an encounter with a future date. Open NextGen® Mobile. On the menu bar, select Schedule. The Schedules window opens. Select the patient. The Patient Chart window opens. Select the Encounter field. The Patient Encounters window opens. To select a different date for the encounter, do the following: Select the Create Encounter field. The date selection view appears. Select the desired date. Select Done. The Patient Encounters window displays the selected date. To create an encounter, select Create Encounter. The Patient Chart window opens with the current date in the Encounter Date field. The details of the most recent encounter for the selected patient appears. Optional: If necessary, edit the encounter data. Parent topic: View Details in Patient Charts

View Encounters for a Patient

Patient encounters record any interaction between you and the patient or patient’s representative. Encounters can be a scheduled visit, a phone call, a video chat, an email, or an unscheduled visit to a practice. If you are a NextGen clinic user with appropriate permissions, you can use NextGen® Mobile to do the following: View the encounters for a patient saved in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Create encounters and send to NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open NextGen® Mobile. On the menu bar, select Schedule. The Schedule view opens. Select the patient. The Patient Chart window opens. Select the Encounter field. The Patient Encounters window displays a list of existing patient encounters. Patient Encounters View If available, each entry shows the day and date of the encounter, the provider, and the location. Lock icon indicates that the encounter is locked. Note: You can open a locked encounter and add dictation to it. You cannot edit the details of a locked encounter. Parent topic: View Details

Encounters in NextGen® Enterprise EHR

An encounter is an interaction with a patient on a specific date at a specific time. An encounter can be a visit, a phone call, a virtual visit, a referral, a test result, or an interaction. A patient can have more than one encounter per day. Patient encounters are displayed on the Encounter History tab. You can expand or collapse the Encounter History tab using the button above the Quick Buttons panel. Each row in the Encounter History tab represents one encounter. Encounters are identified by date and time, provider, and location. The Encounter History tab displays basic information of an encounter like the rendering provider, location, appointment type/reason for visit, templates and documents related to the appointment. The Encounter History tab displays the list of encounters created for the selected patient and includes the following components: New Encounter Creates an encounter. Create an Encounter

Before you begin Ensure that you have configured the encounter inheritance settings for Encounters on the Practice Preferences window in File Maintenance. When you have a patient chart open, you can create an encounter for the patient. Each new encounter may inherit information such as Encounter Details and Insurance from the previous encounter in the patient chart. You can add templates, documents, images, and other patient items to the new encounter. You can also assign insurance, enter remarks, and associate a program to an encounter. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from Patient Lookup window. To create an encounter, do one of the following: On the Patient Information Card (PIC), select New Encounter. On the PIC, select Profile Options, and then select New Encounter. On the Encounter History tab, select New Encounter. From the File menu, select New > Encounter. NextGen® Enterprise EHR creates an encounter with the current date on the Encounter History tab. On the

Open a Template

In NextGen Care® Population Management Hub, to view the patients list, do one of the following: From the Cohorts tab, run a report. From the My Lists tab, run a list. From the Appointment Book tab, filter the patients. The patient list appears in the patient grid. In the patient grid, select the check box to the left of the patient's name. From Chart, select EHR Chart. A list appears displaying up to ten favorite templates. Do one of the following: To open a template with an existing unlocked encounter, select an encounter from the required template. To open a template with a new encounter, select the template name, and then select Yes to create a new encounter. Note: For NextGen® Enterprise EHR version 5.9 or earlier, you cannot select an encounter from NextGen Care® Population Management Hub. If an unlocked encounter exists for the current date, the template opens with that encounter. If there are no unlocked encounters for the current date associated with the template, you can creat
