Setting Up Medication Deletion Reasons

To allow users to apply a reason when they delete previously prescribed medications, you must activate the Prompt for Prescribed Medication Deletion Reason and add custom reasons that users can select. The system includes a history of the deleted medication for traceability and may send a CancelRx request to the pharmacy to ensure the prescription is not dispensed to the patient. Medication Status

Each medication entered into a patient's record has a corresponding medication status which is displayed in the first column of the medications list. The following table describes the medication statuses: Medication Status Status means that medication was Active Prescribed to a patient, who is actively using the medication. Inactive Prescribed to the patient, however the patient is not taking the medication at the present time. Pending Prescribed to the patient with the Start Date set in the future. Temporary Prescribed to the patient and is displayed on the medication list, but was not saved yet. Deleted Deleted. If applicable, a Cancel Rx message was sent to the pharmacy to ensure the medication is not dispensed to the patient. Active status is assigned to a medication when you save the prescription. If the prescribed medication reaches the specified stop date, Inactive status is assigned to the medication. You can change the medication status manually at any time. Note: The medicati

Printing Patient Prescriptions

You can print a prescription to hand over to the patient. The following apply: If you print or fax a controlled substance prescription, you can no longer ePrescribe the prescription. If you ePrescribe a controlled substance, you can print or fax the prescription. The printed or faxed report must indicate that the printed or faxed copy is "not for dispensing." If you ePrescribe a controlled substance and the transmission fails, you can print or fax the prescription. The printed or faxed report must display a message that states the prescription was originally sent electronically to a pharmacy. The pharmacy’s name, and the date and time of the eRx message must display. The message must also show that the eRx message failed. If the Verify PIN Universal Preference is set to True, you are required to provide Medication Verification when printing a patient prescription. Stopping Medications

You are able to stop a medication that was prescribed to a patient. When you stop an active medication, the Medications module adds the current date as the stop date and then moves the medication to the Inactive section. Cancel an Electronic Prescription In the Medications module, you can cancel a prescribed medicine and send a cancellation message to a participating pharmacy. Tracking the eRx Status The eRx Status and Dispense History windows enable you to track the status of cancelled electronic prescriptions. Acknowledge Medication Deletions

If you selected a medication or an administered medication for deletion, then when you select Confirm, the Deleting dispensed medication window appears and lists the medication. This message is informational only, as it is not possible to stop the deletion once you have clicked Confirm. Deleting Dispensed Medication Message Select OK. If you view the medication later in the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Medication module, the entry for that medication shows a Status value of "Deleted" and a Deletion Reason of "External Deletion."
