Field	Description
Brand Name	Displays the brand name of the medication.
Generic Name	Displays the generic name of the medication.
Form	Displays the form in which the medication is administered.
DEA Class	Displays the Drug Enforcement Agency Class that indicates the degree of potential abuse and level of Federal control over the medication.
View Associated NDC Identifiers	Displays the National Drug Codes for the medication. The NDC ID is a unique identifier for a medication assigned by the NDC.
Do not allow eRx	If the state does not allow electronic prescriptions for this medication, select this check box to prevent users from doing so.
Do not allow faxing	If the state does not allow faxed prescriptions for this medication, select this check box to prevent users from doing so.
State DEA Class	By default, this field automatically displays the same class selected in the DEA Class field. If necessary, select a different DEA class according to state DEA regulations. You can select a class equal to or lower than the one selected in the DEA Class field.
Quantity/ Refills	Set the default values for the Quantity and number of Refills.
NADEAN Required	To be compliant with the DATA 2000 statute, select this check box to indicate that the medication requires a provider’s Narcotics Addiction DEA Number (NADEAN) or X DEAN number before it can be prescribed for the treatment of opioid dependence. Dispense as Written	Specify whether the generic brand equivalent is permitted for the medication.

Prescribing Medications Requiring Narcotics Addiction DEA Number

Before you can prescribe medications that require a Narcotics Addiction Drug Enforcement Administration Number (NADEAN), the following conditions must be met: You are enrolled with the Surescripts network of pharmacies with ePCS level access. Your Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number accompanies the narcotic prescription. The patient is diagnosed with opioid dependency or addiction. Your NADEAN must be in the system. Note: The system sends NADEAN in the electronic prescription when you prescribe a new prescription, respond to a refill, or perform RxChange transactions for medications containing buprenorphine. The workflow to submit prescriptions that require NADEAN: Prescriber selects a valid ICD code for opioid treatment. Prescriber selects one of the FDA-approved schedule III, IV, and V narcotics used to treat opioid addiction and dependency for the patient. You can use this table when adding user-defined medications. Field Description Brand Name Enter the brand name of the medication. Generic Name Enter the generic name of the medication. Narcotics Addiction DEA Number

The Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000) permits qualified physicians to obtain waivers that expand the settings in which they can prescribe certain medications containing buprenorphine, which treat opioid addiction and dependence. Instead of being limited to only opioid treatment program settings, qualified physicians would be able to prescribe FDA-approved schedule III, IV, and V narcotics in any practice settings (for example, in an office, community hospital, or health department). Each of these physicians is allotted a unique Narcotics Addiction Drug Enforcement Administration Number (NADEAN) waiver identification number. It is also known as the "X" DEA number. Require a NADEAN for a Diagnosis Code

To comply with the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 statute, certain ICD-CM codes are already designated by default as being related to opioid dependence or addiction treatment diagnosis. When marked as such, any medications prescribed in association with the ICD-CM code will require a provider’s Narcotics Addiction Drug Enforcement Administration Number (NADEAN). Open File Maintenance Select EHR > ICD CM Codes. The ICD CM Code Search window opens. Search for the code, and then select OK. The Modify ICD Code Information window opens. Select NADEAN Required. Require a NADEAN for a Medication

To comply with Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 statute, you can identify the FDA-approved medications that require a provider’s Narcotics Addiction Drug Enforcement Administration Number (NADEAN) before they can be prescribed for the treatment of opioid dependence. The identification must be implemented at the drug classification level where both Generic Buprenorphine (single) and Buprenorphine+Naloxone (combination) medications are covered. The buprenorphine-containing brands like Suboxone®, Zubsolv®, and Bunavail® should also have this identification. In File Maintenance, open the Medications master files. In the Medication Tasks window, select Medications, and then select Run. Search for the medication. In medication details, select NADEAN Required. Add User-Defined Medications from the Medications Module

You cannot delete a user-defined medication. The Add UDM button is available only if the Allow Entry of User Defined Medication universal preference is set to True. Open the Medication Search window. Medication Search Select the search type from the Search list. Enter a full or partial name of the medication in the Find field. If the medication does not exist in your database, select Add UDM. The Add User Defined Medication window opens. The Brand Name and Generic Name fields are required.
