Note: USPS is no longer allowing new user registrations for Web Tools API, and has announced that Web Tools API will be discontinued on January 25, 2026.
The USPS API requires a Client ID and Secret Key to be able to perform real-time address validation. Users will receive a USPS email with their business account information once successfully created.
For more information on creating a business account in USPS and obtaining the USPS API credentials, visit https://developers.usps.com/getting-started.
Note: USPS allows up to 60 address validations in one hour.
NextGen Healthcare recommends real-time address validation frequency be considered when determining the best USPS registration option, practice or user level.
- Practice registration: The entire practice is allowed 60 real-time address validations in an hour.
- User registration: Each user is allowed 60 real-time address validations in an hour.
