Before you begin If you do not have a business account, you must create a business account as part of the USPS registration requirement. Additionally, you must obtain Consumer Key and Secret values. For more information on creating a business account and retrieving Consumer Key and Secret values, visit USPS API Getting Started. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. Select Admin > Preferences > Practice. In the Practice Preferences window, from Preferences List, select External. In USPS Address Validation, select the Enable Practice Registration checkbox. Note: If your business account is not registered with USPS, select Click Here. Enter the Consumer Key and Secret values. Real-Time Address Validation using USPS (United States Postal Service) API
Note: USPS is no longer allowing new user registrations for Web Tools API, and has announced that Web Tools API will be discontinued on January 25, 2026. The USPS API requires a Client ID and Secret Key to be able to perform real-time address validation. Users will receive a USPS email with their business account information once successfully created. For more information on creating a business account in USPS and obtaining the USPS API credentials, visit https://developers.usps.com/getting-started. Note: USPS allows up to 60 address validations in one hour. NextGen Healthcare recommends real-time address validation frequency be considered when determining the best USPS registration option, practice or user level. Real-time Address Validation in NextGen® Enterprise PM
The automatic address validation process occurs when a registered user enters or modifies an address in NextGen® Enterprise PM. The following tasks must be completed for a registered user: You must assign NextGen® Enterprise PM access rights to the user in System Administrator. The user must complete and submit a United States Postal Service (USPS) registration form. USPS must send the user a confirmation email with a USPS user name and user ID and password. An administrator must enter the user's USPS password in System Administrator. Automatic real-time address validation for billing and secondary address occurs when you add or modify any of the following: Patient's information. Person's information.
