Enterprises and Practices

You must create your enterprises and practices in File Maintenance before you can add groups and users in the System Administrator application. If your practice provides multispecialty care to patients, we recommended that you set up the necessary number of enterprises and practices in order to facilitate proper security and management of your system and data. You can do the following in File Maintenance: Create enterprises. Set up your enterprises. Create practices in each enterprise. Groups

A user group is a set of users who share similar roles within your organization. Every user must be a member of at least one group. Groups keep users organized and make the maintenance of user rights and permissions easier. Rights and permissions must be assigned at the group level and they apply to all users within the group. There is no limit to the number of groups you can create and no limit to the number of groups to which a user can belong. Note: When a user is in multiple groups within one practice and each group has different rights, the user has all the rights available to those groups when he or she logs on. Organizing Your Internal Structure

The Directory is structured with enterprises, practices, groups, and users in the following way: When you start a NextGen® Enterprise application, you are provided with one default enterprise, practice, group, and user. Adding additional enterprises and practices to the directory allows you to manage multiple practices and provide more secure access to patient data. Each user must be assigned to a group, which in turn must be assigned to a practice, and each practice is assigned to an enterprise. Adding Existing Users to Other Groups

After you create a user in one group, you can add the user to additional groups within the same practice, in different practices in the same enterprise, or in practices in other enterprises. You can add users to groups by doing any of the following: Add users to a single group. See, Add Existing Users to a Single Group. Assign one or more groups from the same practice to a single user. See, Assign a User to Groups in the Same Practice. Assign one or more groups from any practice in any enterprise to a single user. See, Assign a User to Groups within Any Enterprise. If a user is assigned to more than one group, the user inherits the rights and permissions of all of the groups to which he or she is assigned. Therefore, if the user belongs to multiple groups, some of which have a particular right and some that don't, the user gains access to the right. Set Up Integrated Authentication

You perform all integrated authentication setup in System Administrator. Setup is a three-step process. Turn on LDAP mapping. The setting enables the Map LDAP User button on the user under General tab. Map each NextGen application user to a user name in Active Directory. You can map them individually or in bulk. If necessary, you can provide proxy access for mapped users. Activate Integrated Authentication In System Administrator you can turn on LDAP and Windows integrated authentication. Managing Enterprise and Practice Setup

The System Administrator application provides system administrators with a way to set up, maintain, manage, and secure their NextGen® Enterprise systems. One of the most important aspects of system maintenance and security is the management of user accounts, user groups, and the rights granted to user accounts. The System Administrator application allows you to do the following: Set up Universal Preferences. Set up the use of BLOBs (Binary Large Objects), Biometrics, and the Provider Approval Queue.
