Using Single Sign On

Single Sign On streamlines the user logon process for multiple applications. It enables users to switch from one non-administrative application (such as NextGen® Enterprise EHR, NextGen® Enterprise PM, NextGen® Document Management, and NextGen® Optical Management to another without having to log on to each application. Note: For security purposes, user access to administrative applications should be restricted. Therefore, users must always log on to the administrative applications such as File Maintenance, System Administrator, NextGen® Background Business Processor, NextGen® Clinical Message Manager, and Report Server. When Single Sign On is in use and Patient Synchronization is enabled, an open patient record in one application automatically opens in subsequent applications. The same record displays when the user opens another application or when the user switches from one open application to another. However, you can override Patient Synchronization by clearing the appropriate synch

Customizing the Logon Window

Depending on the needs of your practice, you might prefer to customize the Logon window. This customization can change the window appearance and control the ways in which your users log on to applications. You can: Add a custom message that displays on the Logon window for all users. Remove the Enterprise and Practice fields from the display. Activate Single Sign On so users skip the Logon window for most applications. Activate LDAP integrated authentication so users can log on with their Windows credentials. See, Map a User for LDAP Integrated Authentication. Enable Enterprise Worklog Manager

When you have security access to multiple practices within an enterprise, you can enable Enterprise Worklog Manager. This enables you to work on tasks from different practices without having to login to each practice. For example, while logged in to Practice A, you can work on tasks from Practice A, Practice B and Practice C all at the same time. To enable Enterprise Worklog Manager, do the following: Access NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the Admin menu, select Preferences, then User, and then General. The User Preferences window opens. Select the Tasks tab. Select the Enterprise Worklog Manager check box. The following prompt displays: Would you like all practices selected by default in Enterprise Worklog Manager? Select one of the following: To automatically pre-select all practices to which you have access rights in the Practice field on the Enterprise Worklog Manager window in NextGen® Enterprise PM, select Yes. Open the Practice Preferences

Do one of the following: In File Maintenance, select Master Files > System > Practices. In NextGen® Enterprise PM, select the Admin > Preferences > Practice. Double-click a practice, and then select Preferences. The Practice Preferences window opens. In the Preference List, select the desired practice preference name. Create Layout and Preferences for NextGen® Enterprise EHR

You can create a layout configuration that you want to display on NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open File Maintenance. Under Master Files, select EHR, and then select Application Appearance. The EHR Application Appearance window opens displaying the preview of the Patient Information Card (PIC), Quick Buttons, Encounter History, and Categories for the Default configuration. Select New. The Edit EHR Application Appearance Configuration window opens. Enter a name for your configuration. Set up the Patient Info, Quick Buttons, and Encounter History information as required. Select Save. A preview of the added configuration appears. To view the list of practices available to associations with the configuration, select Look up by Practice on the Edit EHR Application Appearance Configuration window. Note: Once you associate a practice with a configuration, it cannot be associated with any other configuration. To associate practices with the new configuration, select the configuration from the list

Configure Enterprise and Practice

Each NextGen® Background Business Processor package you set up applies to a specific enterprise and practice. You can change the enterprise and practice to which the NextGen® Background Business Processor package that you created belongs. Select File > Change Practice to access the Change Practice window. When first accessed, the Change Practice window displays the currently active enterprise and practice. From the drop-down list for each field on the window, select the enterprise and practice for which you want to create or modify scheduled packages.
