KX Modifier

KX Modifier tracking occurs automatically when you submit charges on encounters. The system looks to the Procedure Module or the Charges table in NextGen® Enterprise PM for any billable codes for the current encounter, and then, based on configuration set up, checks the payer’s contract in File Maintenance or in the Reimbursement Rate grid on the Billing Configuration system template for any codes with the GP, GO or GN modifier to calculate reimbursement for the current calendar year. In the Medicare Certification box on the NTS Homepage, the Used this year field displays the system-calculated value. In the corresponding Amt used field, you can manually enter any amount used externally in the same calendar year. KX Modifier amount fields After patient treatment charges pass the first-tier cap (as designated in the Billing Configuration system template), the system applies the KX modifier to all charges for the remainder of the calendar year. No Charge

Use the No Charge checkbox when you have checked in a scheduled appointment in the NextGen® Enterprise PM, and the patient does not actually complete treatment that day (for example: patient leaves during treatment due to illness or family emergency). This sends a No Charge code to NextGen® Enterprise PM and the encounter does not increase the overall SOC or deduct allowable visits from scripts or authorizations. Parent topic: Fee Sheet

Receiving and Applying Charges from NextGen® Enterprise EHR

When the Suppress Billing option is not selected in the Service Item Library Maintenance window in File Maintenance or in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, unapplied encounter credits for charges entered for a patient in NextGen® Enterprise EHR generate automatically in NextGen® Enterprise PM. The information in the field associated with each charge is carried over from NextGen® Enterprise EHR to NextGen® Enterprise PM. When charges are sent from NextGen® Enterprise EHR, the charges enter NextGen® Enterprise PM in one of the following methods: Automatically applied. When the holding tank is Off and the charges coming from NextGen® Enterprise EHR have an unapplied encounter credit, a batch with an ID of AUCR is automatically created. Placed in the holding tank until the users manually accept each charge. When the holding tank is On, a batch is not automatically created. NextGen® Enterprise PM Charges for Locked Encounters

You can update patient procedures in NextGen® Enterprise with charges from NextGen® Enterprise PM whether the encounter is locked or not. If a modification to a specific charge is performed in NextGen® Enterprise PM (or any other external source), the change is automatically applied to the applicable patient procedure in NextGen® Enterprise. You cannot modify a patient procedure in NextGen® Enterprise within a locked encounter. To perform updates to patient procedure charges against a locked encounter, you must enable the Allow patient procedure activity against a locked encounter from the EPM or external source preference in Practice Preferences in File Maintenance. Setting Active Patients in NextGen® Enterprise PM

When you open a patient's chart in NextGen® Enterprise PM, you can set that patient as the current active patient. You can then easily access the active patient in other areas of the application, if needed.
