When sending a message to a NextGen® PxP Portal user, if you select Send & Chart, the message is added to the patient's chart by default after it is sent. You can select one of the following encounter types as the default encounter type:
- New Locked Encounter
- New Unlocked Encounter
- Existing Unlocked Encounter
For more information about setting up the default encounter type, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Configuration Guide for NextGen® PxP Portal .
The default encounter type is used only when you do not select a specific encounter or encounter type when charting a message.
The
Send & Chart button in the
Patient Portal Messages window provides you the following options to chart a message:
- Add to New Encounter (Locked): The message is charted to a new encounter and the encounter is locked.
- Add to New Encounter (Unlocked): The message is charted to a new encounter and the encounter remains unlocked.
- Add to Original Unlocked Encounter: The following steps are used to determine where the message is charted. This option does not apply to medication renewal because patients cannot reply to the medication renewal response.
- The message is charted to a new unlocked encounter if it has not been charted using this option
- The message is charted to the last used encounter if it was previously charted using this option
- Add to an encounter with a specific date and time: The message is charted to the encounter with the selected date and time. This option is available only if the message is already added to the chart.
- Do not add to chart: Select this option if you do not want to add the message to the chart.
