Documenting Billable Visit Counseling

You can document the additional counseling time and its associated details for a patient.

You can use the BV Counseling template to document additional counseling time spent with a patient. The Visit Type is automatically selected based on the data entered on the Billable Visit template.

You can also document the details of the counseling given to the patient. Selecting the Counseling Override check box enables you to override the calculated evaluation and management (E&M) code for counseling and enter the total encounter time to determine the E&M level.

If the 2023 E&M coding guidelines are applicable, the Counseling Override check box does not appear on the BV Counseling template, and the Total Encounter Time field is made available to enter the values.
