Setup for Ophthalmology ASC in File Maintenance

For ASC billing, billing is separated into a facility fee and a professional fee. The facility fee is billed through the ASC, which is set up both as a practice and as a provider. The professional fee for the surgery/procedure is billed through the clinical practice of the surgeon/provider. The facility (ASC) is set up and selected as the practice and the rendering provider, while the provider performing the surgery is selected as the referring provider. Configuring the ASC as both a practice and a rendering provider is done in File Maintenance. CAUTION: It recommended that practices consult their legal advisers, and state and other regulators for setup guidance to determine whether a separate practice should be set up for the ASC or if the ASC can be included as an additional location within the provider practice. Ophthalmology Ambulatory Surgical Center Setup

In this version of NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Ophthalmology ASC templates remain the familiar 10-tab template set as in previous versions. Open this template set by selecting ASC Home – OPH listed in Template Launcher in the History toolbar or configured as a preferred medical records template in Preferences on the Template tab. To use the Ophthalmology ASC workflow, for billing purposes and to meet certain regulatory requirements that clinical records for an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) be kept separate from a clinic, certain configuration prerequisites must be performed in File Maintenance. This includes setting up the ASC as a separate practice and configuring this Ambulatory Surgical Center as the rendering provider. When documenting an Ophthalmology ASC encounter, the ASC Center is selected as both the Practice and the Provider. Set Up the Practice as an ASC Provider in the Provider System Master File Set Up the Practice as an ASC Provider in the Provider System Master File The Ophthalmology ASC practice is required to be set up as an ASC Provider in the Providers system master file. Before beginning to enter patient information for Ophthalmology ASC, you must select your ASC Center in the top toolbar as the Provider. Click Providers under Master Files - System to open the Providers List window. Click the Menu icon below the Providers List Search field and select New ... to open the Add Provider Information tabs.
