Renew Medications

In NextGen® Mobile, you can renew medications in the Patient Chart view. When renewing a medication, if your encounter is not the latest one, a message appears prompting you to associate the medication to the encounter existing for the current date. If an encounter does not exist for the current date, a message appears prompting you to create an encounter for the current date and associate the medication to the new encounter. Note: You can renew a Controlled Substances (CS) medication only if you have set up the necessary ePCS permissions. If you have the ePCS permissions but the provider relationship is not set as self in System Administrator, you can renew and save the CS medication but cannot send that medication for prescription. In NextGen® Mobile, open the Patient Chart view for the patient. Select the Medications section.The list of patient medications appears. Locate the medication to be renewed. Refill Medications

In NextGen® Mobile, the refill requests appear on the Refills view. You cannot submit refills for controlled substances medications with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) class codes as C1 and C2. Whereas C3, C4, and C5 medications can be submitted for up to five refills per transaction. Note: In NextGen® Mobile, the refills for C1 and C2 medications appear as none and the refills for C3, C4, and C5 medications are limited to five. In NextGen® Mobile, open the Hub module. Select Refill Requests.The Refills view opens listing the refill requests. Refills details view By default, the list displays the oldest to newest requests with the oldest on top of the list. Select Oldest to reverse the order. Note: The refill requests also appear as tasks in the Hub view. You can select a particular task to open the Refill Request view. In the Refills view, locate the patient and medication that you plan to refill. The selected entry must be marked with Matched Refill. Select the patient entry.T

Electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances

You can electronically submit a prescription for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) controlled substances (CS) by using electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances (ePCS). ePCS uses the Surescripts retail networks of pharmacies and must be set up through File Maintenance and System Administrator. When you search for medications in NextGen® Mobile, the CS medications appear in red along with the DEA class codes; C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5. To control user rights for electronic prescriptions, System Administrator follows the DEA regulations to restrict eRx access rights in applications and practices. These measures rely on identity-proofing to prevent fraud. To comply with the DEA regulations, NextGen® Mobile providers can use any of the following ePCS authentication methods. Viewing Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Report

As a regulatory requirement, states can mandate that you view a patient’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) report before prescribing Controlled Substances (CS) medications such as narcotics, sedatives, stimulants, and drugs of concern. With PDMP, you can receive a detailed list of a patient’s controlled substance history and NarxCare scores at the point of care. The PDMP integrated functionality, using Bamboo Health PDMP Gateway, can help eliminate fraud, risk, and crime while ensuring compliance and increasing patient safety. For this service, you, as a client, must contract directly with Bamboo Health for a nominal annual provider fee. Some states cover this fee for their prescribers. In NextGen® Mobile, providers with proper permissions can now view the PDMP reports using a hyperlink that appears on the Rx Details, Refill Request, and Renew Medication views for CS medications. Enable Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Gateway and Report Review

Before you begin Before you enable Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) gateway, you must have the PDMP gateway login credentials from Bamboo Health. You can enable the PDMP gateway so that users with PDMP security rights can request for and view a patient’s PDMP report. When you enable the PDMP gateway and the State PDMP, the PDMP and the PDMP Viewed via State Portal buttons in the Medications module becomes available to the authorized users. In File Maintenance, from Master Files > System > EHR, select Practices. The Practices List window opens. On the Practices List window, double-click a practice. Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Setup

The Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) setup involves the following procedures: In File Maintenance: Enable PDMP Gateway. or Enable State PDMP. Note: The Enable State PDMP option enables non-Bamboo Health users to document that they have checked the state's PDMP website outside of NextGen® Enterprise EHR. If necessary, specify whether PDMP report review is required. Select the PDMP Gateway role. In System Administrator: Set up user and provider relationship to Self. If necessary, set up PDMP reports to automatically generate. Verify the PDMP Production API URL. Grant PDMP report security rights to user groups. Note: If you have firewall or proxy restrictions, you should grant access to the URL pdmp.nextgen.com on workstations where you are using NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
