Insert an Order Control Field

You can use an order control field on a template in two ways:
  • Insert the field on a Medical Records template to enable a user to view or enter lab, radiology, or immunizations order or result information in NextGen® Enterprise EHR at run time.
  • Insert the field on a Practice or Practice Popup template to enable a user to manage all patient orders across a practice and update practice order filters in NextGen® Enterprise EHR at run time.
  1. Drag the Order Control icon from the Fields toolbar to the template design area where you want to place it.
    The Insert Order Control window opens.

  2. In the Name text box, enter the name you want to assign.
  3. To reposition the field on the template, enter the appropriate numeric values to replace the current vertical and horizontal coordinates displayed in the Position boxes.
  4. To resize the field, enter the appropriate numeric values to replace the current dimensions displayed in the Size boxes.
    You can also resize the field using the border handles by dragging the top or side handles in or out to change the height or width, or by dragging the corner handle in or out or diagonally to change the overall dimensions proportionately.
  5. From the Type list, select one of the following which display at NextGen® Enterprise EHR run time:
    • Order. Displays the Create a (Lab/Radiology/Immunizations) Order window.
    • Orders Summary. A summary of orders for a patient within a practice. This information is drawn from the Orders module. Filters can be selected to display all orders or only certain order types.
    • Result. The Orders module New Results Entry tab, which is used to manually add and save new results for a selected lab or radiology order.

      To display order information at run time, you must also set up an to assign the order number to the order control field. Enter the name of the order control field in the Assign To: box, and enter a Value Calculation expression to assign the order number from a specific template field or variable.

    • Trend Results. The Results view from the Orders module, which is used to review all lab test results for the current patient.
    • Vaccine. Immunization views from the Orders module that shows the recommended immunizations schedule for the selected patient and the status of the immunizations.
    • Orders Management. A list of orders for patients across a practice, drawn from the Orders module. Predefined filters can be selected to display all scheduled orders due in the next week, all overdue orders created in the last two weeks without results, or all unfinished orders.
  6. To hide the order control field when the template is opened, select the Hidden check box.
  7. Select OK and save your template.
