In the Medications module, when you select any controlled substance medication, the application displays the
MME/Day value for the medication by calculating the composition of the medication and the added SIG. It also displays the
Total MME/Day value by adding the MME/Day value of the already prescribed medications. You can select
MME Reference
to read more about the CDC guidelines on prescribing the controlled substance medication.

Note: The system administrator must enable the MME Calculation in File Maintenance for you to view MME/Day or Total MME/Day value in NextGen® Enterprise EHR,

  On selecting
Accept, the medication gets added to the prescribed medications list and the
Total MME/Day value gets updated.

Note: If the selected medication is not a controlled substance medication, the application displays the
MME/Day count as
0. If the patient does not have any medication with controlled substance, the application displays the
Total MME/Day count as
0.

   CAUTION:

   If the
Total MME/Day value exceeds the threshold value set in File Maintenance, the caution

 icon appears beside the
Total MME/Day field with a tool tip stating that the
Total MME/Day value has exceeded the threshold limit set in File Maintenance.

On selecting Accept, a message appears alerting you that the total MME/Day value has exceeded the threshold limit set in File Maintenance. You can select Yes to add the medication for the patient.

Note: The application cannot calculate the
MME/Day value in the following scenarios.

    - The SIG is unstructured. A caution
icon appears beside the MME/Day field with a tool tip stating that the system cannot calculate MME/Day as the SIG is unstructured.
    - The MME/Day factor is not available from First Databank (FDB). A caution
icon appears beside the MME/Day field with a tool tip stating that the system cannot calculate MME/Day as MME Factor is not available.
