Prescribe a New Medication

You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medication. Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message. Viewing Morphine Milligrams Equivalent (MME) Value

In the Medications module, when you select any controlled substance medication, the application displays the MME/Day value for the medication by calculating the composition of the medication and the added SIG. It also displays the Total MME/Day value by adding the MME/Day value of the already prescribed medications. You can select MME Reference to read more about the CDC guidelines on prescribing the controlled substance medication. Note: The system administrator must enable the MME Calculation in File Maintenance for you to view MME/Day or Total MME/Day value in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, On selecting Accept, the medication gets added to the prescribed medications list and the Total MME/Day value gets updated. Note: If the selected medication is not a controlled substance medication, the application displays the MME/Day count as 0. If you clear the Display MME Calculation check box, the field retains the counter value and is disabled. Configure Medication Verification

You can enable or disable medication verification. If you enable medication verification, you are prompted to enter your password when you fax, print, or ePrescribe a medication even if the medication is not a controlled substance. Medication Verification In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, from the Main menu, select Tools > Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Do one of the following: To enable medication verification, select Use Medication Verification. To disable medication verification, clear Use Medication Verification. Medications Module

The NextGen® Enterprise EHR Medications module enables you to prescribe, print, fax, and e-prescribe (requires enrollment) patient medications. The Medications module also enables you to educate patients on medications prescribed to them, and check whether the prescribed medication has adverse interactions with other prescribed medications, existing allergies, or known diagnoses. MME Prescription Report

The MME Prescription Report displays the list of controlled substance medications prescribed by providers during a specific date range. The report also displays the total MME/day value of the prescribed controlled substance medications for each patient. The total MME/day value appears in red if it exceeds the threshold value. The MME/day column displays Unable to calculate if the system cannot calculate MME value due to an unstructured SIG. You can set up the parameters to view the MME Prescription Report in the Enter Parameters Values window under File > Reports > Crystal Reports.
