Use of the Default Windows Printer

Document generation within the NextGen® Enterprise EHR, including the Document Queue / Offline Document Processor (ODP) utility, depends upon the Windows default printer of the machine on which the application is running. Every time a document is opened and/or generated, the document control queries the Windows default printer to identify acceptable fonts, page size, page margins, and other document properties. As such, a default printer must be specified at the Windows level for any server/workstation used to generate documents, both from within the NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and from the ODP. Not specifying a default Windows printer can lead to document generation performance issues, with potential symptoms including: blank documents; taking several minutes to generate a document; seeing {macro names} on documents; and other unforeseen consequences. Patient Document Generation

You can generate patient documents in NextGen® Enterprise EHR on the workstation you are logged on to or offline on a remote workstation. Before generating a particular document, make sure that you have selected a patient. Also you can check that all the relevant data is entered into the patient medical record. You can select options to save or print a patient document or send it to a patient account on NextGen® PxP Portal website when it is generated. You can create documents in two other ways: A template may be configured with a Launch Document trigger that you can execute to generate a document. Use NextGen® Enterprise EHR Quick View feature to generate a document in real time as you work on a patient encounter. You can then save and attach the document to the patient chart. Set up Default Offline Generator Preferences

If you are using the TX Text Control, you can set up your offline generating preferences in the Generating section of the Documents tab. Note: The preferences in the Generating section apply only to documents that are generated offline from a Launch Document template trigger using the Document Queue utility for the TX Text Control. The preference settings are specific to each user machine. If no default preferences are set, documents are sent to the first available running instance of Document Queue and the default Windows printer. If you generate documents offline using the Documents icon on the Top Toolbar, you can select the generator and printer on the Generate a Document window. Document Queue Requirements

To use Document Queue, you must have enabled the TX Text Control by run the TX Text document conversion. Note: NextGen Healthcare does not recommend offline document generation through VMware®. Document Queue uses basically the same software as real-time document generation and has similar requirements to NextGen® Enterprise EHR. CPU, memory, operating system: Same requirements as NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Database connectivity: Basically the same requirements as NextGen® Enterprise EHR with the following exception: If the database connection is lost and then restored, Document Queue should begin processing documents again once the connection is restored. This differs from NextGen® Enterprise EHR, which must be shut down and restarted if the connection is lost. Document Queue must run on the windows desktop as a user, the same as NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Document Queue must be shut down and restarted if universal preferences are changed, the same as NextGen® Enterprise EHR. NextGen Heal
