Which minimum version of the Medication Update do I need to see COVID-19 vaccine details? December 2020. This version contains the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine codes, as well as drug interaction and contraindication warnings. When new vaccines are released, how will we get that content into our EHR? We are working with First Databank (our data partner for medications and vaccines) for gaining access to any code sets approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to be included in future medication updates. These are being released to the industry ahead of vaccine approvals to allow time for the Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) community to prepare. NextGen Healthcare will then provide new medication updates, potentially outside of our once-a-month cadence, to support getting this detail to our clients. You can use the following checklist for the recommended setup and testing preparation for administration of COVID-19 vaccines. Download new Medication Update from NextGen Healthcare Success Community. Update CPT4® codes in File Maintenance. Create new Service Item (SIM) codes and administration CPT codes for the vaccine. Create Vaccine Inventory entries. Update National Drug Code (NDC) library. Update Vaccine Favorites in Practice Preferences. Update the Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) with the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) fact sheet content. Verify ordering workflow and administration of the vaccine on a test patient. Verify registry submissions are working. Test and create reports to capture the data required for reporting and patient tracking. Set up the Vaccine Inventory for Immunizations

Before you start, run the most recent Medications Update. Set up your practice's Vaccine Inventory. Note: By default, the CPT code is mapped to the Service Item Master code. If your practice uses custom SIM codes, you can map these codes to the appropriate CPT code in File Maintenance > Systems > Vaccine Billing. Before building your vaccine inventory, it is recommended that you map your custom (or alternate) SIM codes, if necessary. Set up specific lot numbers for a component, if necessary. If your practice administers Immunizations to VFC-eligible patients and you have set up custom VFC SIM codes, you must select the VFC SIM code as the default or non-default using the Vaccine Billing option in File Maintenance. If your practice administers Flu Immunizations to patients with Medicare as the payer, you can set up the alternate Medicare Billing codes (Q codes) in the NDC Library to ensure accurate billing. Configuring Immunizations

On the Immunizations Configuration template, you can add immunizations to your inventory. You can use the Immunizations Configuration template to add immunizations to the main inventory. You can also configure the administration codes for billing the COVID-19 vaccines. The First Databank drug database is used for storing immunizations. The following table describes the panels on the Immunizations Configuration template. Panel Description Immunization Inventory Set-up You can use this panel to add, update, and delete immunizations from the immunization grid, and send them to the main inventory. You can import a list of immunizations using a CSV file path, or manually add the details using the fields below the immunization grid. You can also configure the automatic provider sign-off. Create SIM Codes for COVID-19 Vaccines

Each manufacturer’s vaccines are represented by individual unique CPT4® and administration codes. You can add the unique COVID-19 vaccine codes to the Service Item Library. Open File Maintenance. Under Libraries, select Service Items. The Service Items List window opens. To add codes to a library, select an existing library and select open menu , and then select Open. Note: You can create a Service Item (SIM) library for COVID-19 vaccines by selecting open menu and then selecting New. The Service Item Library Maintenance window opens.
