Set up the Prescribing Delegates Preference

The Prescribing Delegates preference enables a provider with a "Self" relationship to assign and manage delegates who can prescribe on his or her behalf. The delegates must have the appropriate rights for print, fax, or eRx. With this preference in place, only that provider and any delegates configured by the provider can send prescriptions associated with that provider name. To enable the user preference, the Practice Preference for prescribing delegates must first be selected in File Maintenance. The Limit Prescribing to Selected Delegates check box is then selected by default and the Manage Delegates button is enabled. If the Practice Preference is not selected, only a provider with a "Self" relationship can prescribe with his or her own name. The user preference in NextGen® Enterprise EHR is disabled. Note: Users who have the security right to add medications to the module can continue to do so using any provider name regardless of the Practice Preference or user preference setting

Medication Practice Preferences Descriptions

The following table provides description for the fields on the Medication Practice Preferences. Use this table to configure the practice-level settings for the Medications module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Field Description eRx: always send generic name if not DAW Select this check box to have all medications sent via eRx using the generic name unless the provider selected the Dispense as Written check box. Prescribe a New Medication

You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medication. Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message. Manage Delegate Users for Provider Report Viewing

Note: This functionality is available only to the provider who is logged on. Other users cannot make delegate assignments. If you are an HQM-enrolled provider, you can assign delegates to view your own HQM Clinical Quality report. A user can be a delegate for more than one provider. You can select and add delegates from all practice users or from a selected task workgroup that has a group type of NextGen® Enterprise EHR or Both ( NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM). Workgroups are set up in Practice EHR Master Files in File Maintenance. For more information, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the File Maintenance Basic Guides for NextGen® Enterprise. In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, from the Tools menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select Quality Reporting. Select Manage Delegates. The Select CQR Delegates for <name of logged on> Provider window opens. You can select a whole work group or individual users within the work group.
