Set up the Prescribing Delegates Preference

The Prescribing Delegates preference enables a provider with a "Self" relationship to assign and manage delegates who can prescribe on his or her behalf. The delegates must have the appropriate rights for print, fax, or eRx. With this preference in place, only that provider and any delegates configured by the provider can send prescriptions associated with that provider name.

To enable the user preference, the Practice Preference for prescribing delegates must first be selected in File Maintenance. The Limit Prescribing to Selected Delegates check box is then selected by default and the Manage Delegates button is enabled.

If the Practice Preference is not selected, only a provider with a "Self" relationship can prescribe with his or her own name. The user preference in NextGen® Enterprise EHR is disabled.
  1. Select the Limit Prescribing to Selected Delegates check box if it is not already selected.
  2. Select Manage Delegates.
The Select Prescribing Delegates window opens.

You can select a whole user group or individual users within the user group. The Users section initially displays all users for the practice from the Everyone work group.

  3. To select another user group, select the Group Name in the User Groups section.
The users in that group appear in the Users section.
  4. To list only user group users that you are linked to, select the Only Show Users Linked to Current Provider check box.
Users are linked to providers through the Provider Relationship setting in System Administrator.
  5. To add delegates to the Delegates section, do one of the following:
    • To assign all members of the selected user group as delegates, select Add>> to add the group.
    • To assign one user as a delegate, select the name of the user, and then select Add>> to add the user.
  6. To assign multiple members of the user group as delegates, select the Ctrl key as you select each name, and then select Add>> to add the users.
  7. To remove the users from the Delegates section and place them back in the Users section, do the following:
    • To remove a single user, select the user name, and then select <<Remove.
    • To clear all users, select Clear.
    • To remove multiple users in the list, select the Ctrl key as you select each user name. Then select <<Remove.
  8. When you have selected your delegates, select OK.
