The following table provides description for the fields on the Medication Practice Preferences. Use this table to configure the practice-level settings for the Medications module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
Field | Description |
---|---|
eRx: always send generic name if not DAW | Select this check box to have all medications sent via eRx using the generic name unless the provider selected the Dispense as Written check box. |
Enable Standard Sigs | This field is not currently used. |
Enable Sig Override | This field is not currently used. |
Allow Prescribing Delegates | Select to enable each provider with a "self" relationship to delegate which users with the appropriate rights for print, fax, or ePrescribing can send medications on his or her behalf. When prescribing delegates is allowed, a user preference becomes enabled in NextGen® Enterprise EHR that providers can use to limit and manage the delegates. This check box is selected by default. If the preference is not selected, only a provider with a "self" relationship can prescribe with his or her own name. The user preference in NextGen® Enterprise EHR will be disabled. |
Display PDR BRIEF | Select to enable drug safety information from the Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) web service. The drug safety information displays, if applicable, when a prescriber prescribes a medication in the Medications module.
|
Enable Tall Man Medications | Select to enable Tall Man casing for medications to help users distinguish between medications that have similar names. When there are similar medication names, they display with some of the letters capitalized. For example, acetazolamide and acetohexamide have similar names. In the First Data Base listing, the display names are acetaZOLAMIDE and acetoHEXAMIDE and display as such in the Medications module and medication search windows. |
Enable Patient Savings Program | Select to enable various savings programs that present offers and patient education for patients who qualify at the point of prescribing. For more information about the patient savings programs, see the Clinical Modules Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR or the ePrescribing Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
|
Patient Savings Program Eligibility Response | If you want the provider to have more time to review the eligibility response for patient savings programs before a medication is sent to a pharmacy, enter the response time in seconds from 0 (zero) to 30 for the Send button. Doing so increases the chance that the provider will review the program information and opt in. Otherwise, the prescriber might not realize the patient is eligible for a patient savings program and could miss the opportunity to offer such a program to the patient. If you enter 0, there is no delay. If you enter a number above 30, the system automatically resets the time to 30. The default is 3 seconds. |
Patient Savings Printer | When Enable Patient Savings Program is selected, you must select a default printer to allow users to print materials related to the Patient Savings Programs. This printer becomes the default printer for the entire practice.
|
Display MME Calculation | Select the check box to calculate and display Morphine Milligrams Equivalent (MME) calculation in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. The check box is enabled and selected by default. |
Display MME/Day Threshold Limit Increase Alert (MME/Day) | Select the check box to enable the alerts in NextGen® Enterprise EHR when the total MME/Day value exceeds the set threshold value. The check box is enabled but not selected by default. You can also set the maximum threshold value for total MME/day in the (MME/Day) counter. If you clear the Display MME/Day Threshold Limit Increase Alert check box, the (MME/Day) counter is disabled. The (MME/Day) counter has 1 to 999 numeric values. You cannot set the value as blank, 0 or a negative. The maximum threshold value in (MME/Day) counter is set to 90 by default. If you clear the Display MME Calculation check box, both the Display MME/Day Threshold Limit Increase Alert check box and (MME/Day) counter are disabled. |
Allow Sending eRx to Multiple Destinations | Select this check box to enable users to send prescriptions to multiple pharmacies. Some example situations in which you would want to select this option: A patient might want some prescriptions sent to mail-order pharmacy and others sent to a local pharmacy. The practice has an internal pharmacy that does not handle some of the medications in a prescription. For the Patient Savings Programs, it is recommended that you select the check box to ensure non-program prescriptions are sent to the appropriate pharmacy. If it is not selected, sending non-program prescriptions to a program pharmacy could result in a prescription not being filled for a patient. |
Default Pharmacy Interface | You can select a default pharmacy destination if you selected the Allow Sending eRx to Multiple Destinations check box. This pharmacy will be the default interface (medication destination) selected when users prescribe and send medications. If necessary, users can override the default by selecting a different pharmacy. |
Unmatched Refill Request Provider Preference | Select the provider to use as the default filter when users attempt to resolve unmatched refill requests. The list of unmatched refill requests shows only the unmatched refill requests that are associated with the provider. Select one of the following options: All Providers – the Filtered By field displays All Providers and the list shows all unmatched refill requests for all providers. Current Provider – the Filtered By field displays the current provider name and the list shows all unmatched refill requests for the current provider. Assigned Provider – the Filtered By field displays the assigned provider name and the list shows all unmatched refill requests for the assigned provider. |
Office of Pharmacy Affairs 340b ID | Providers can send the 340b ID details to the pharmacy by filling the Office of Pharmacy Affairs 340b ID field. This will enable the patients to claim discount if they are 340b eligible. |

PDMP reviewed information displays on document when accessed within # days prior to encounter | Determines the amount of days the Document Builder macro will go back to capture the last time PDMP was reviewed. The amount of days found will be displayed on the NextGen® Enterprise EHR document. For example, if 3 days is entered, then PDMP reviews done 3 days within the encounter day to the encounter day will be displayed on the NextGen® Enterprise EHR document.
