Set up the DEA Refills Limit Warning Preference

You can set up the DEA Refills preference to display a DEA Limit Warning window when a provider has selected a higher number of refills than allowed by the DEA federal regulations. The Display DEA Refill Limit Warning check box is selected by default. To disable the display of this warning, clear the Display DEA Refill Limit Warning check box. DEA Restrictions for Refills

The Medications module supports the following Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) restrictions: DEA controlled medications Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 cannot be refilled. DEA controlled medications Schedule 3, Schedule 4, and Schedule 5 are set to have a maximum of 5 (five) refills with a default refill value set to 0 (zero). If you have selected a higher number of refills than allowed by the DEA Federal Regulations, the DEA Limit Warning window opens. DEA Limit Warning On the DEA Limit Warning window, you can do one or more of the following: To add the medication with the selected number of refills, you can select Yes, with Requested Amnt. To add the medication with the maximum number of refills allowed by the DEA Federal Regulations, you can select Yes, with Max Allowed. To edit the number of refills, you can select No. If you do not want to see the DEA Limit Warning message, you can select Never show DEA Limit Warnings. You can use the following table when adding or modifying medications. Field Description Brand Name Displays the brand name of the medication. Generic Name Displays the generic name of the medication. Form Displays the form in which the medication is administered. DEA Class Displays the Drug Enforcement Agency Class that indicates the degree of potential abuse and level of Federal control over the medication. View Associated NDC Identifiers Displays the National Drug Codes for the medication. The NDC ID is a unique identifier for a medication assigned by the NDC. Do not allow eRx If the state does not allow electronic prescriptions for this medication, select this check box to prevent users from doing so. Do not allow faxing If the state does not allow faxed prescriptions for this medication, select this check box to prevent users from doing so. Working with eRx Refill Requests from the Medications Icon

The Manage Refills window displays the patient's demographic information, provider information, pharmacy information, and the refill request details. This information is sent from Surescripts. You can either approve or deny the refill request. After you respond to a Refill Request from the Workflow > Clinical Tasking list, the request is no longer available in the Medications module and the Workflow window. View Refill Requests from the Medications Module You can view new eRx refill requests from the Medications module. Approve an eRx Refill Request from the Manage Refills Window You can approve an eRx refill request using the manage refills window. Deny an eRx Refill Request from the Manage Refills Window You can deny an eRx refill request task and select Denial - New prescription to follow reason from the Manage Refills window.
