DEA Restrictions for Refills

The Medications module supports the following Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) restrictions:

  • DEA controlled medications Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 cannot be refilled.
  • DEA controlled medications Schedule 3, Schedule 4, and Schedule 5 are set to have a maximum of 5 (five) refills with a default refill value set to 0 (zero).
  • If you have selected a higher number of refills than allowed by the DEA Federal Regulations, the DEA Limit Warning window opens.
    DEA Limit Warning

On the DEA Limit Warning window, you can do one or more of the following:

  • To add the medication with the selected number of refills, you can select Yes, with Requested Amnt.
  • To add the medication with the maximum number of refills allowed by the DEA Federal Regulations, you can select Yes, with Max Allowed.
  • To edit the number of refills, you can select No.
  • If you do not want to see the DEA Limit Warning message, you can select Never show DEA Limit Warnings.
  • If you do not want to see the DEA Limit Warning message for the selected medication, you can select Never show DEA Limit Warnings for this Drug.
