Generate a Growth Chart from the File Menu

Before you begin Make sure that you have set up Graphing preferences that correspond to the template and field values that data are graphed from. To generate a specialty growth chart, set up the applicable preference for Gestational Age (premature patients), Down Syndrome Indicator, or Turner Syndrome Indicator. To graph a growth chart using a measurement date instead of an encounter date, enter the Measurement Date Column preference. You can also set up preferences to Print Patient Name, Print Patient Date of Birth, and Print Chart Print Time on the generated growth chart. Open the pediatric patient's history in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the File menu, select Graph, Growth Charts. Select one of the following: BMI Height Weight Head Circum Weight for Length NextGen® Enterprise EHR plots the graph for the selected growth chart using template data from all of the patient's encounters. Change Graph Colors

You can change the colors used on the graph for the background, patient, and each percentile. You can select a different background color from a list of basic colors or existing custom colors, or create your own custom color. White is the default background color. You can also use a gradient background. To activate the color display, select the Custom check box on the Options window. To change the background color, select the Background color swatch. The Color window appears, showing Basic colors and any previously created Custom colors. To use an existing color, select a color in the Basic colors or Custom colors palette. To define a custom color, follow the instructions in Create a Custom Color. Select OK. The selected color displays as the Background color swatch on the Options window. Standard Growth Charts

Standard growth charts measure body mass index (BMI), height, weight, head circumference, and weight versus length. By default, the growth charts use chronological age and are not corrected for genetic syndromes or premature birth. An option is available on some growth charts to adjust the plot for gestational age. Standard growth charts use data from the World Health Organization (WHO) or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The table below lists the standard growth chart types by age group and provides the data source and percentiles graphed. Premature Growth Charts

Premature growth charts are available for age versus height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and head circumference, and weight versus length. They are automatically generated for a patient with a gestational age of less than 37 weeks at birth and a current gestational age of up to 50 weeks. An age adjustment plot can be used when the patient is older than 50 weeks. Premature growth charts use data from the 2013 Fenton Growth Chart study to graph the percentiles: 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, and 95. The growth charts display Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart in the title. For example, the title for a head circumference growth chart for a premature girl is Age vs. Head Circumference (Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart, Girls). For a premature boy, the title for a height growth chart is Age vs. Height (Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart, Boys) and for a weight growth chart, it is Age vs. Weight (Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart, Boys). Change the Graphing Interval Range

The interval range sets the number of days or months for graphing connecting lines between data points on a patient's graph. Days are used for graphs plotted in months (such as 0-24 months); months are used for graphs plotted in years (such as 2-20 years). For example, if the interval range on a graph plotted in months is 60 days, the graph displays a connecting line between data points entered within 60 days. Change the intervals in the Interval Range section of the Options window. To set a monthly interval, move the monthly slider from None to 120 days. The default is 60 days. To set a yearly interval, move the yearly slider from None to 730 days. The default is 365 days. To restore the default settings, select the Use Defaults check box. Growth Chart Graph Menu

After you generate a growth chart, you can right-click the graph to display the Growth Chart Graph menu. Note: The commands on this menu vary based on the age of the patient and the growth chart type. A command is dimmed if it is unavailable for the displayed graph. The following table describes each type of command: Command Description Plot Premature Patients who are considered premature and have a gestational age of 50 weeks or less default to the premature plot. A check mark indicates that this plot is adjusted automatically for prematurity. Premature plots are not generated for Turner syndrome patients. Plot (Age range) Displays the age range(s) that can be plotted for this type of graph. The following age ranges may be shown depending on the patient's age and type of graph: 0-24 months, 0-36 months, 2-18 years, 1-20 years, or 2-20 years.
