Medications List

The medications list displays all medications prescribed for the selected patient, including any combination of Active, Inactive, Pending and Temporary medications. You can customize the display of available medication information in the medications list. CAUTION: Whenever you add a new column to the medications list, you must reset the view and then rebuild your list preferences. Medications List Note: The Original Start Date field was added to NextGen® Enterprise, version 5.7. This field displays the date a medication was originally prescribed using the renewals functionality. The Start Date field automatically displays the date a medication was first prescribed. For the original medication in a renew chain, both the Original Start Date and Start Date fields display the same date. When the medication is renewed, the Original Start Date remains the same and the Start Date field reflects the date of the renewal. The Medication Search window enables you to search for specific medication to prescribe to the patients and also to set up your lists of favorites. Medication Status

Each medication entered into a patient's record has a corresponding medication status which is displayed in the first column of the medications list. The following table describes the medication statuses: Medication Status Status means that medication was Active Prescribed to a patient, who is actively using the medication. Inactive Prescribed to the patient, however the patient is not taking the medication at the present time. Pending Prescribed to the patient with the Start Date set in the future. Temporary Prescribed to the patient and is displayed on the medication list, but was not saved yet. Deleted Deleted. If applicable, a Cancel Rx message was sent to the pharmacy to ensure the medication is not dispensed to the patient. Active status is assigned to a medication when you save the prescription. Manage Patient Medications

You can update the medication records, and mark an active medication as inactive. To update a medication record, select the row containing the record in the Medications panel, select Add/Update, and update the necessary details on Medication Module. To mark an active medication as inactive when the patient has discontinued taking the medication, select the row containing the medication record on Medication Module, and then select Stop. Medications

Use the Medications grid to view the patient's active medications. These are pulled from the Medications module. You can reconcile the medications, add new ones, or remove ones that are no longer active. To indicate that medications have been reviewed, select the Reviewed check box. The None check box is automatically selected if no medications are listed. To remove a medication, select it and click Remove. Note: When you click Remove, it instantly removes the selected medication from the grid and changes its status to inactive in the Medications module. Make certain that you have selected the medication that you intend to remove. To add or edit a medication, click Add to open the Medications module. Patient Medication

You can view the patient's active medications and the medications prescribed, modified, and renewed during the selected encounter in the Medications panel. You can enter additional prescriptions for the patient, and reconcile the medications listed with what medications the patient is actually consuming and how the patient is consuming them. The No medications this encounter check box selection is encounter-based. If you select the No medications this encounter check box for a previous encounter and prescribe medication in a current encounter by selecting the Prescribed Elsewhere check box, then the No medications this encounter check box for the previous encounter remains selected. The patients can now view the active medications and medications prescribed during the selected encounter in the documents.
