Prescription Reporting Format and Features

The RxPrint Report and RxFax Report include the following prescription reporting features:

Prescription reports can be printed in different formats on certain paper types:

  • Single prescription per full page.
  • Single prescription: 4.5" by 5" on special Rx label printers. The prescription displays in the top-center of the report.
  • Two prescriptions per page: 4.5" by 5" on special perforated prescription paper. This paper is perforated horizontally in the middle of the sheet to yield 2 scripts when detached; one prescription displays on the top and the other prescription displays at the bottom.
  • Four prescriptions per page: 4.5" by 5" on special perforated prescription label paper, which will print on one page in four quarters. This format is best used when you are using Rx503-P4 prescription paper.

Other Information that the RxPrint and RxFax reports can include:

  • The Location Name, Location Address, Telephone Number, and Location Fax Number
  • The Provider Information includes the LIC number, DEA number, and NPI number
  • An Rx logo placed on the prescription report (print or fax)
  • Patient demographic fields: Sex, Age, DOB, Prescription Date, and Address
  • The name and strength of the medication.
  • Format for dispense quantity and unit (numerals and words). For example: Disp: 90 (ninety) Tablets or Large Qty Tablet
  • Quantity check boxes: Must be printed on the form and the appropriate box must be selected for the prescription to be valid. For example, if the Quantity is 30, the 25-49 check box must be selected
  • Reformatted Refill Line format
  • Dispense instructions: Whether the prescription can be filled as written or if a substitution is allowed (indicated by whether the Dispense As Written field in the NextGen® Enterprise Medication module is selected)
  • Signature line for the provider. This can be a single or multiple signature line depending on the state's pharmacy requirements and can include additional instructions for the provider
  • If the prescribed medication for a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) order, the report displays a Signature Date label and value underneath the actual physician signature (when printing or faxing only)

Printed Prescriptions requirements for the RxFax Report or RxPrint Report (Version 5.8 or higher)

For the RxFax Report, according to the Prescription Routing 6.1 Application Certification Requirements document, a printed prescription must include the following:

  • An indication that this is in response to an electronic refill renewal request for a controlled substance
  • The appropriate RxReference Number from the original Refill Renewal Request

The RxFax Report and RxPrint Report display patient e-coupon information in the Comments section.

To display comments in Spanish on the RxFax or RxPrint reports, the user selects this option in the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Medications module. Then, Please print patient instructions in Spanish displays in the Comments section on the RxPrint and RxFax reports.
