Open the SIG Builder. In the Sig list, select a SIG from any one of the following categories: Most Used (if available) The Most Used Sig category is assigned by the number of times providers select that sig for the medication. Build Custom SIG

You can manually build an SIG for a medication. From the Medication module, open SIG Builder. Sig Builder In Admin, select a method of administration from the list. In Quantity, select the number of units from the list or enter a number. To select a quantity range, do the following. Select the Quantity as Range check box. The new list appears besides Quantity. In the list, select or enter the upper or lower range of the required quantity. In Unit of Measure, select a unit of measure from the list. In Route, select the preferred route from the list. Note: By default, the Show Route check box is selected. To hide Route, clear the Show Route check box. In Interval, enter or select the time interval between medication doses from the list. To select an interval range, do the following. Select the Interval as Range check box. The new list appears besides Interval. In the list, select or enter the upper range of the required interval. Remove Custom SIG

You can remove custom SIG codes associated to the currently selected provider. You cannot delete First Databank SIG from the list. Open the SIG builder. Create Free-Text SIG

You can create a free-text custom SIG with a limit of 512 characters. To eRx a prescription, the free-text SIG is limited to 140 characters. Open the SIG Builder. In the Sig field, enter or copy and paste the SIG details. Sig Builder When you enter a free-text SIG, all other options are unavailable. Sig Builder Select Done. Select a Pediatric SIG Code

Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and open the medication module. Select a medication. Enter the required medication information. Do one of the following: Hover over Add Sig. Select Add Sig. Select the automatically populated SIG Code. The most commonly used Pediatric SIG from First Data Bank appears. Pediatric SIG Clear the Common Sigs check box to display all available SIG codes. Available SIG codes If no pediatric SIG Code for the selected medication exists, select Calculator to display the Pediatric Dosing Calculator window. Note: The pediatric calculator may be unavailable for multi-ingredient medications being prescribed to a pediatric patient. Select one or more of the following: All Once 2 Times 3 Times 4 Times Select a SIG Code or manually build a Pediatric SIG Code. The selected pediatric SIG is automatically assigned to the selected medication. Select a SIG

After you enter the required medication information, you must select a SIG. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and access the Medications module. Select a medication. Enter all required medication information. Select or build a SIG. The selected SIG is automatically assigned to the medication. If the SIG contains more characters than the display allows, the text is truncated. If you hover the cursor over the truncated text, a tooltip displays the complete SIG. If the SIG exceeds the 140-character maximum for electronic prescriptions, an alert appears next to the SIG text. Select a SIG You can change the quantity and the interval of the medication by either typing the values or using the arrows to select the appropriate values.
