Selecting Orders

To create your order, you can use one or both of the following approaches. You can select a diagnosis and then add the appropriate order items. This approach can be useful for differential diagnoses. For example, for a patient exhibiting symptoms of pneumonia, you may have two differential diagnoses—streptococcus pneumonia and viral pneumonia. You can select a set of tests specific to streptococcus pneumonia first, followed by a different set specific to viral pneumonia. You can select the order items first and then assign the diagnoses. In this approach, you can search for and select a laboratory, diagnostic, or immunization item using the following options. Place Selected Orders

Before you begin While selecting your orders, ensure that you address all the mandatory indicators, which are denoted by . Ensure that you have completed the charge submission and payers information configurations in File Maintenance so that your practice can post charges for performing laboratory and diagnostic tests, and also automatically include Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) codes and Modifiers in the charges for diagnostic orders with Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) check. Managing Order Details

When you select an order item, Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) displays the order details in the following tabs based on the order type. All Laboratory Diagnostic Immunization In the All tab, CPOE displays a consolidated summary of all your selected order items, grouped by the order type and selected performing entities. In the Laboratory, Diagnostic, and Immunization tabs, CPOE displays the details of the respective order items. You can review and modify the details of your order items before placing your order. Note: CPOE saves your selected order items in the Incomplete Items list until you place the order. Manage General Order Details You can view and modify sections of the order that are common for all your selected order items. Managing Incomplete Orders

When you select an order item, Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) displays the order details for your review and also saves the order in the Incomplete Items list. If you close the CPOE window, you can select Incomplete Items to re-open CPOE and resume your saved order. CPOE prefixes the total number of selected items to Incomplete Items and displays the following color representation. indicates that there are no incomplete items for the current encounter. indicates that the current encounter has incomplete items. To view a quick summary of the incomplete orders in the encounter, you can hover over Incomplete Items. Disable Incomplete Orders Notification You can disable the CPOE incomplete orders notification in NextGen® Enterprise EHR in Tools > Preferences. CPOE Configuration Requirements

Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) is available on NextGen® Enterprise EHR from version 5.9.2020.1 onwards. Before using CPOE, ensure that you have: Set the screen resolution on your system to 1366 x 768 pixels or higher. Configured the Orders module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For more information on the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Orders Module User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Enabled the CPOE Order Search Bar in File Maintenance > Practice Preferences > EHR so that it appears in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Overview on Computerized Physician Order Entry

Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) is the process of electronically capturing and transmitting medical treatment instructions, including medication, laboratory, and diagnostic orders. CPOE is a core Meaningful Use criteria objective for both hospital-based and ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) systems. As providers and clinical support staff with ordering privileges, the CPOE implementation on NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to search for, select, and order one or multiple laboratory, diagnostic, and immunization items in a simple workflow. You can select order items from the frequently ordered items list, favorites list, and immunization recommendations list, or directly search for order items by the test name, compendium code, or CVX and CPT® code. Based on your order selection, CPOE's built-in decision support system automatically performs various critical checks that assist you in selecting the most appropriate order item for the patient's condition.
