System	This value is the testing entity, such as Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics.
Question Code	This code value is provided by the testing entity, such as Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics. Each testing entity has its own naming requirements.
Description	This is a free text field. The description for the question is selected by you.
Source Type	Select using the drop-down arrow: Free Text, Pick List or Template
Native Data Type	Values such as numeric, date, alpha-numeric
AOE Answers	Contains the text for the format of this AOE question. For example "Patient's Race". This is only set when the source type is picklist. It identifies the list when answering a question.
Units	The units are the acceptable answers for this AOE question.
Template	A template name if the AOE question can get the answer from a template field.
Field	A field name from a template if the AOE question can get the answer from a template field.
NextGen Data Type	The data type for this question: numeric, date, date/time, string, time, boolean or integer.
Ask Question Once	If the answer to this question is used by several AOE questions, you can just prompt the person creating the test order to answer this question just once per order.
Answer Required	If this information is optional, leave it unchecked. If this information is required, check this box.

Duplicating AOE Questions

NextGen® Enterprise EHR version 5.6 and later enables you to map multiple tests to the same AOE question. If you have duplicated your AOE questions in NextGen® Enterprise EHR version 5.5.x, only one instance of each unique question is kept during the upgrade to NextGen® Enterprise EHR version 5.6 or later. You must re-map all templates/fields that might be affected during the upgrade process. To determine whether you have any duplicate AOE questions and/or if you need to remap any templates, download the 5.6 AOE Questions Upgrade Crystal Report package from the NextGen® Enterprise website. The report identifies whether you have duplicate AOE questions, which duplicate AOE questions are no longer mapped to a template and which templates are affected. Handle AOE Questions

Before you begin Before you begin, ensure that you have configured the Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers system master files in File Maintenance. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest File Maintenance Master Files Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. You can answer Ask at Order Entry (AOE) questions while ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests through performing entities that require AOE, such as such as Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics® . Open CPOE. Select an order item. Assign a diagnosis to the selected order item. Select the Laboratory or Diagnostic tab. Under the AOE Question Answer section, select the answers to the questions. Note: Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) displays an indication for any tests that are configured for AOE answers. CPOE automatically saves your answers. Define an AOE Question

Select File Maintenance > Master Files > System > Order AOE Questions. Select Open Menu and select New. The Order AOE Questions dialog box opens. Select the drop-down list and select a performing entity (lab or radiology) system for this question. Enter the order test value Code specific to the performing system being used. These codes are sent to the user by the performing entity and are different for each performing entity's list of tests. Select the drop-down arrow to select a Source Type. Select the desired value to select one. Free Text. The user can enter any value. List. The user must make a selection from a pre-defined AOE Answers list. Template. NextGen software picks up the value in the selected template field. If you select "list" it brings up the list of defined AOE Answers that you created for your database using File Maintenance. This can be a question to make it clear to the user what value needs to be entered. For example: "Did the patient fast?" If you select "string"

The following master files are set up and updated in File Maintenance. Master File Description Order Tests You can manually add or modify tests and their appropriate codes in the Order Tests master file. Tip: Create this table first. Order Components The Order Components master file stores units and reference range data for individual tests. This is useful if using the NextGen results view or if you are entering results manually. Creating Ask at Order Entry (AOE) Answers

Order AOE Answers in File Maintenance is the master file you use to define the list of answers used for Order AOE questions if the Source type is pick list. If a test vendor gives you a list of acceptable answers for AOE questions, you can create and link the provided answer list to the questions for that specific testing vendor (for example Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp). This helps to prevent problems with format and content of answers to Order AOE Questions. The System field on the Order AOE Answers dialog box is selected from a list of performing entities, such as Quest Diagnostics, Orchard and Labcorp. The Code field is a unique answer ID. The Description is text that easily identifies the question, for example: Patient Race, Fasting, Weight, Age, etc. If the question is defined as a required question the Orders Module displays it as bold when you are running NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For each order and for each question, you must create an instance of the answer. That means if you

Orders Setup and Maintenance

The Orders Module supports both standard lab tests (blood work, urinalysis, etc.) and radiology tests (x-rays, MRIs, etc.). These tests must be selected and defined for your practice. You can use the tests in the NextGen® compendium; you can use the tests from your testing entities (such as Labcorp); or, you can define your own set of tests. Before setting up the NextGen Compendium or Orders Tests, to ensure the most recent compendiums are loaded, your system administrator must run the Order Management Console. The test settings, questions and other definitions for the Orders Module are set up using File Maintenance. The master files store all data needed by the Orders Module, and they must also be properly set up before you can use the Orders Module. You should define these Orders master files first: Order Tests, Order Components, Order Test Favorites, Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers.
