The Orders module functionality allows you to process many types of orders according to the patient's needs and your practice's workflow. You can perform various tasks once the order is created, such as faxing the order, printing the order, and signing off the orders. Fax Formatted Results

On the Orders Summary tab, select an order. To expand the Results panel, select the down arrow. Select Fax on the Results toolbar. The Send Fax window opens. Enter the To/From details and a Fax number and select Fax. The formatted results are faxed to the defined fax number. Note: The resulting Fax document must fit an 8.5-inch wide paper size so it may look slightly different from how it appears in the Formatted Results tab. Parent topic: Formatted Results Tab

Saving Tests in the Orders Module

After you have selected a diagnosis and test for a patient, you can save the information using the Save & Task, Save & Fax, Save & Print, Save & Send or Save options on the order creation or update windows. Parent topic: Select Tests Panel

Cancel Test Orders

When you cancel an order, you can automatically notify the performing entity if the vendor accepts electronic cancelation messages. If a vendor does not accept electronic notification of a cancelation, you can call the vendor and then record the cancelation in the Orders module. Open the Orders Summary tab in the Orders Module. Select the test order you want to cancel. On the Orders Summary Top toolbar, select Cancel. The Cancel Order window opens. In the Cancel comment box, enter the reason you are canceling the test, using up to 255 characters. If you If you enter more than 255 characters, the extra characters are automatically truncated. Do one of the following: To cancel the order and notify the vendor, select Cancel Order & Send. To view if the cancelled order was sent successfully or failed, hover over the Cancelled status in the NextGen Status column. Fax Patient Documents

Before you begin To be able to fax patient documents, the access rights for Operations > Faxing > Documents must be enabled in the System Administrator application. You can fax one or more patient documents directly to a selected destination. Generate a new patient document, or open an existing patient document. From the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Menu bar, select File and select Fax. Note: This option appears on the File menu only when you have a patient document in view. If you have not previously saved your document, the Save Document window opens. Select OK. The Send Fax window opens. Select Destination criteria. The Send Fax window defaults the Destination criteria based on the last selection made for the type of the item being faxed. For example, if you last faxed a medication to a specific pharmacy, the next time you try to fax a medication, the Destination is automatically set to Pharmacy. Adding or Modifying a Test Order in the Order Tests List

Each test vendor has to have each test order used in NextGen® Enterprise EHR defined for that specific vendor. For example, if you use three vendors to process tests, and you have common tests for blood work, glucose, cholesterol, throat cultures and iron counts, you must create three versions of each test, one version for each vendor. This graphic shows an example of a Glucose test in the master files defined for three different vendors. Note: When searching for items in the Order Tests List, you can change the focus of the search from System to Order Test Key to Order Test Description by selecting in the menu bar to move the highlight button to the item on which you want to use to complete the search. After you set the focus as described above, you can create vendor-specific groups of tests that are set up in the preferences for your location or for specific providers.
