Set Up Clinical Decision Support Operation Rights

Clinical Decision Support security rights allow users to access the clinical support available through the URL specified in the Resources practice preferences. Access System Administrator. Select your enterprise practice > group. On the Rights tab, select the plus icon next to OPERATIONS to expand the list, and then expand Clinical Decision Support. To enable user access to Clinical Decision Support, do one of the following: For all relevant modules, select Clinical Decision Support, and then select Yes in the Access Rights section. For specific modules, expand Clinical Decision Support, select the relevant name, and then select Yes in the Access Rights section for the following modules: For the Orders module, select Lab Results. For the Medication Allergy module, select Medication Allergies. For the Medications module, select Medications. For the Problems module, select Problems & Diagnosis. External Patient Education

External Patient Education refers to educational resources that are available while connecting to a code (such as ICD-9, ICD-10, or CPT) or a description (such as RxNorm) to an external resource accessible through a URL that is set up in File Maintenance. When you right-click a code or term, the HL7 InfoButton accesses a URL to an external resource and launches the website in a web browser. Note: NextGen Healthcare recommends that you use the External Patient Education link to access resources that are useful to your patients' recovery and care, such as health behaviors, preventative education, and instruction about behaviors and activities that can assist in patients understanding about their care. Websites with InfoButton-compliant functionality may require subscriptions. Vendors (companies that provide patient education) are not required to adhere to the HL7 standards. Clinical Decision Support

Clinical Decision Support refers to the external resources that provide evidence-based decision support interventions. These external resources enable you to select one or more electronic clinical decision support interventions based on each and at least one combination of the following: Problem list Medication list Medication allergy list Demographics Laboratory tests and values/results Vital signs In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, clinical decision support electronically identifies diagnostic and therapeutic reference information for the user. The HL7 InfoButton link set up in File Maintenance activates the Clinical Decision Support URL to connect you to context-sensitive information based on the active NextGen® Enterprise EHR module. Note: NextGen Healthcare recommends that the URLs associated with Clinical Decision Support access sites or vendors that provide you with additional information, such as suggested care plans and recommendations based on the patient's results or diagnoses. Assign External Provider Reference URLs at the User Level

NextGen® Enterprise EHR allows you to assign your own External Provider Reference URLs that override the URLs set up in the Practice Preferences in File Maintenance. Access NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the Tools menu, select Preferences. On the Preferences window, select the Reference tab. In the External Provider Reference section, enter the URLs of the websites in the respective fields for the following modules: Diagnosis & Problem Modules Procedure Module Medication Module Medication Allergy Module Order Module - Lab Results Select Apply and then select OK. Assign External Resource Links in Practice Preferences

You can assign links for the external resources in the Resources Practice Preferences. Alternatively, users can External Provider References in the User Preferences in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. These User Preference settings override the settings from the Practice Preferences. CAUTION: Because you are responsible for setting up the URLs for your practice, NextGen Healthcare does not have prior knowledge of the code system expected by the receiving website. If an unsupported code is sent to the selected URL, the URL will fail and the website will return an error message. Open the Practice Preferences. From the Preference List, select Resources. Access External Provider Reference from the Medications Module

You can access the External Provider Reference resource and search for additional information regarding the selected medication from the Medications module. Open the Medications module for a patient. Enter a new medication for the patient, if required. Do one of the following: Right-click the medication, and then select Resources > External Provider Reference. Select the medication, and then select Resources > External Provider Reference from the Medications module toolbar. The application directs you to the external URL you set up in your practice preference or user preference. Note: The External Provider Reference is also available from the Medication Search window.
