Before you begin
Ensure that the
Remarks
check box is selected in the user-level settings to enable the description/remarks option on the
Encounter History
tab.
You can enter the description or remarks for a patient from the encounter menu options
on the
Encounter History
tab.
Open
NextGen® Enterprise EHR
, and select a patient from
Patient Lookup
window.
On the
Encounter History
tab, select an encounter, select
Encounter Options
, and then select
Encounter Description/Remark
.
The
Encounter Description / Remark
window opens.
Enter the remark.
Select
OK
.
The remark appears on the
Encounter History
tab and the
Encounter Maintenance
window.

Lock an Encounter
Before you begin Ensure that the Rights > Operations > Encounters > Lock Patient Encounter in System Administrator is set to True and the necessary access rights are enabled. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest System Administrator Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. To prevent changes or additions to a patient encounter, you can lock the encounter. You can create an addendum to add documents or images to a locked encounter. Note: If you do not lock the encounter manually, the encounter gets automatically locked within 72 hours, by default. You can change the default locking period by accessing File Maintenance > Enterprise Preferences General > Lock Interval tab, or Practice Master file > Practice Defaults tab. Delete an Encounter
Before you begin Ensure that the Rights > Operations > Encounters > Delete Patient Encounter in System Administrator is set to True and the necessary access rights are enabled. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest System Administrator Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. You can only delete encounters that do not have any templates, documents, images, or patient items attached to them. You cannot delete an existing encounter that contains patient data. Encounters created through an existing interface with your practice management system cannot be deleted regardless of whether patient data has been added to the encounter. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from Patient Lookup window. On the Encounter History tab, select an encounter, select Encounter Options, and then select Delete Encounter.The NextGen EHR Security Delete Encounter window opens. Unlock an Encounter
Before you begin Ensure that the Rights > Operations > Encounters > Unlock Patient Encounter in System Administrator is set to True and the necessary access rights are enabled. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest System Administrator Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. You can unlock a previously locked encounter. After you have unlocked an encounter, you may lock it again at any time. Note: All encounters are automatically locked after the set time expires. The default time is 72 hours before an encounter is locked. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from Patient Lookup window. On the Encounter History tab, select an encounter, select Encounter Options , and then select Unlock Encounter. The NextGen EHR Security Unlock Encounter window opens. Encounter Options for Encounter History
The Encounter Options button on the Encounter History tab provides you quick access to configure the encounter. The Encounter Options comprises the following elements. Manage Encounter Display Information at User-Level
You can choose the information to be included along with its format, and order. You can also include remarks. You can set encounter display preferences in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from the Patient Lookup window. On the Encounter History tab, select the settings icon.A window opens, showing the default encounter information and a sample display. View Encounter Information
NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to quickly view the contents of an encounter for a selected patient on the Encounter Details window. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from Patient Lookup window. Select an encounter and select the button to open the Encounter Details window. Select the respective link to view any document, template, module, or report associated with the encounter.The selected patient item opens in the main window of NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Note: If an encounter is locked, you can open the patient item in read-only format. You can update information for a locked encounter by creating an addendum or custom encounter.
