Update and Activate the DEA Number
The DEA Number associated with the provider is not found in the current DEA registry. In File Maintenance, open the provider in the Providers master file. The Modify Provider Information window opens. Select the Practice tab. Update the DEA Number. Note: DEA Numbers are two letters followed by seven numbers. Update the DEA Number to Individual DEA Number
The DEA Number associated with the provider is found in the DEA registry, but it is listed as an institutional, rather than individual DEA Number. Each enrolled provider must have an individual DEA Number. In File Maintenance, open the provider in the Providers master file. The Modify Provider Information window opens. Select the Practice tab. Update the DEA Number to an individual DEA Number for the selected provider. Modify Provider Information Select the ePrescribing tab. In the Networks section, select open menu . Assign or Update the DEA Number of a Provider
Each provider must have a valid, active individual Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number to electronically prescribe controlled substances. Newly issued DEA numbers may take up to 30 days to be processed. In File Maintenance, from Master Files > System, select Providers. The Providers List window opens. Double-click a provider. The Modify Provider Information window opens. In the Modify Provider Information window, select the Practice tab. Enter or update the DEA number for the provider as applicable. Resolve Issues
You must resolve all issues to use ePrescribing with NextGen® Enterprise EHR, 8 and to migrate to the Surescripts 2017071 compatible standard. All potential enrollment issues must be resolved before using ePrescribing. Log on to File Maintenance. From Master Files, select System > EHR. Select Providers. The Providers List window opens. Double-click the provider. The Modify Provider Information window opens. Select the appropriate tab and add or modify the information as necessary to resolve all potential issues associated with Surescripts migration to the latest standard. Select the ePrescribing tab. Ensure that the provider has all applicable Retail Service Levels selected. In the Networks section, select open menu . Select Retail > Enroll. Modify Provider Information The ERx Message Submission confirmation window opens. Select OK. The values are added for the Retail settings. Status. DEA Restrictions for Refills
The Medications module supports the following Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) restrictions: DEA controlled medications Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 cannot be refilled. DEA controlled medications Schedule 3, Schedule 4, and Schedule 5 are set to have a maximum of 5 (five) refills with a default refill value set to 0 (zero). If you have selected a higher number of refills than allowed by the DEA Federal Regulations, the DEA Limit Warning window opens. DEA Limit Warning On the DEA Limit Warning window, you can do one or more of the following: To add the medication with the selected number of refills, you can select Yes, with Requested Amnt. To add the medication with the maximum number of refills allowed by the DEA Federal Regulations, you can select Yes, with Max Allowed. To edit the number of refills, you can select No. If you do not want to see the DEA Limit Warning message, you can select Never show DEA Limit Warnings.
