Define Family Unit Member Relationships

You can define the relationship between members of a selected family unit, such as father, son, or daughter. Select the patient name in the Current Members pane. Select Relationship. The Relationship window opens, displaying the user-defined relationships. Note: Relationship is always user-defined. You must create relationship types before assigning them to patients. To create a new relationship, enter the relationship name into the top field, and select Add. Select the appropriate relationship from the list. Select OK. The selected relationship is added to the patient. Repeat all of the steps for each member of the family unit whose relationship you need to define. Parent topic: Set up a New Family Unit

Search a Member Using Member Search

The Member Search function enables you to perform two types of searches: Search for patients grouped by a family unit. Search for patients by alias names, if you do not have permission to view a patient name. From the File menu, select Family Unit and then Member Search. The Member Search window opens. To search by name or alias: Enter all or part of the patient name or the alias name, and select Search. To search for all patients, select Search without entering a name. The matching names appear. Select the patient name or the alias name in the display pane. The selected name appears in the Name field. Select OK. The chart for the selected patient opens. To search by family unit name: Select the Ellipsis button. The Family Name window opens. Enter the name of a family unit, and select Search. The matching family unit is listed. Double-click the family unit, or select it, and select OK. All of the members of the selected unit are listed. Member History Parent topic: Set up a New Family

Add Members to a Family Unit

You can search for available patients to add to current family units. On the Family Unit Setup window, select one of the following four parameters and select Search. Last Name Social Security # Person Number Medical # You can quickly search by typing part of the search parameter. For example, if Last Name is selected and you enter "K" only patients with a last name starting with letter "K" are displayed. You can use an asterisk (*) as a "wild card." All of the patients with the selected parameter are displayed if you chose "*." Note: If you search by Last Name with "*," all of the patients in the database appear. From the list of patients in the Available Members pane, select the patients to add to the selected family unit. Note: You can select more than one patient at a time. To select multiple patients, select and hold the <CTRL> key on your keyboard as you select all of the patients. To add the selected patients to the family unit, do one of the following. Set up a New Family Unit

NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to set up new family units from existing patients. The Family Unit Setup window enables you to either create a new group of patients or make changes to an existing group. From the File menu, select Family Unit and then Unit Setup. The Family Unit Setup and Family Name windows open. In the Family Name window, enter the name of the family unit to set up, and select Add. The new family unit name is added to the list of available choices. To find an existing family unit to be updated, enter the name of the unit, and select Search. The matching family unit name is listed. Select OK. The Family Unit Setup window opens, with the family unit name selected on the Family Name window. To change the name of a Family Unit Name or to select another Family Unit, select the Family Name button to return to the Family Name window. Member History

Users who do not have View Patient Name permission can view a patient family unit in the Member History window. Information fields for the current patient (Name/Alias, Sex, and Date of Birth) appear at the top of the window. Family Units section: Displays a list of all family units the current patient is a member of and shows the relationship of this patient within each family unit. Modify Family Information

Open the Patient Information window for the desired patient. Select the UDS tab. In the Family Information section, select the Open Menu button, and select Open. The Family Info window appears. Modify the following fields as needed. Family Size (see note) Income (see note) Income Cycle (see note) Refused to Report (see note) Verify Date Effective/Expiration Dates To save changes and close the window, select OK. Note: Family information can be modified only if it has not been used. If family size and income were previously used to calculate automatic adjustments on an encounter, they cannot be modified.
