Stop a Medication

You can stop a medication or mark the medication as ineffective in the Medications module when one of the following conditions are met: You are not enrolled to Cancel Rx. You are enrolled to Cancel Rx and the medication was prescribed more than two years ago. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select an active medication. To stop multiple medications, either select and hold the Shift key and select the desired medications or select and hold the Ctrl key and select multiple medications. The Last Audit column must be same when selecting multiple medications to Stop or Mark Ineffective. Select the arrow on the Stop button, and then select either Stop or Mark Ineffective. If you mark an active medication as ineffective, a stop type Rx Note is automatically added to the medication. The note includes text indicating it was stopped due to ineffectiveness. If you try to prescribe the ineffective medication, an Ineffective Warning is displayed on the Drug Interactions window

Tracking the eRx Status

You can track the status of cancelled electronic prescriptions in the following windows: Selecting the Cancel Rx Request and Cancel Rx Response message types in the eRx Status window. Viewing Cancel Rx Request message status in the Dispense History window. Parent topic: Stopping Medications

Cancel Rx Response From the Pharmacy

When the pharmacy's Cancel Rx response is received, NextGen® Enterprise EHR adds a Cancel Prescription note to the patient chart in the Encounter History tab. The note includes the following details about approval or denial: Cancel Rx Request Date Pharmacy details Prescriber name Prescription details for quantity, SIG, and date written, pharmacy response of approved or denied, and pharmacy notes with number of refills dispensed. When the pharmacy sends a denial response, a denial reason, such as No matching prescription found, is included. Stopping Medications

You are able to stop a medication that was prescribed to a patient. When you stop an active medication, the Medications module adds the current date as the stop date and then moves the medication to the Inactive section. Cancel an Electronic Prescription In the Medications module, you can cancel a prescribed medicine and send a cancellation message to a participating pharmacy. Tracking the eRx Status The eRx Status and Dispense History windows enable you to track the status of cancelled electronic prescriptions. Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Refill Requests

When you electronically submit patient medication prescriptions to a pharmacy, you may receive a refill request from that pharmacy. These refill requests are unsolicited and until you respond to a request, you have no other interaction with the pharmacy that requested the refill. Each refill request creates a task in the Workflow module and the Manage Refills window in the Medications module. NextGen® Enterprise EHR evaluates the status of the medication in the patient's chart. If the request can be matched to an existing patient, the information appears with the option to approve or deny the request. Approve an Rx Change Request from the Workflow Module

You can approve the Rx Change request for different request types from the Workflow module. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and open the Workflow module. Select the Clinical Tasking tab and select an Rx Change request from the task list. The Rx Change request details and patient information appear. Select the appropriate request type and do one of the following: If the request type is Prior Authorization, enter the Prior Authorization ID provided by the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) and if necessary, select a Date. If the request type is Generic Substitution, select a generic medication under Suggested Medication. If the request type is Drug Use Evaluation, Script Clarification, or Out of Stock, select a generic medication under Suggested Medication.
