Cancel an Electronic Prescription

Before you begin

  • You must enable Yes for eRx Permissions Practice Rights access in System Administrator.
  • You must be enrolled for Cancel Rx service level in File Maintenance. Only pharmacies with the Cancel Rx service level can receive cancellation messages
  • Pharmacy must participate in receiving Cancel Rx requests.
You can send a Cancel Rx request to a pharmacy. If a medication was prescribed over two years ago, you can only stop or mark a medication as ineffective and cannot send a Cancel Rx request.
  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
  2. Open Medications module.
  3. Select an active medication prescribed less than two years ago.
The Last Audit column must have the eRx value.

  4. Select Cancel Rx.
A message appears indicating that the medication has been cancelled and a cancellation message will be sent to the pharmacy.
  5. Select OK.
The medication becomes inactive and a cancellation message is sent to the participating pharmacy. The Stop Date is updated in the Inactive grid and the Cancel Rx option becomes inactive.
