Best Practices for Managing Your Immunizations Life Cycle
To create and track your Immunization orders effectively, NextGen® Enterprise EHR Immunizations module provides comprehensive functionality that is based on how you set up Immunizations in File Maintenance and System Administrator.
Each practice has its own unique Orders and Immunizations workflow. As you use the Immunizations module, consider your primary patient type, such as pediatric and your overall workflow. For example, immunizations orders flow may begin with your physician conducting an office visit, selecting immunizations, and then passing the administration of immunizations to the clinical staff.
To help you process your immunizations more effectively, consider the following best practices for managing your immunizations life cycle:
- To view the current vaccine schedules to determine which immunizations are due, access the Immunization Schedules (that is Chart, Recommendation, and Registry).
- To order an immunization, select a vaccine, provide the appropriate vaccine detail, and then administer the immunization.
- Print or provide the appropriate VIS documentation, as necessary.
- To view all immunizations for a patient, print the Immunizations Summary report.
- To continue to track orders and immunizations order activity, view the Orders Summary tab and add or update comments during the Immunizations life cycle.
- Determine which Immunizations workflow may be most expedient in administering an immunization to a patient. You may need to take various factors into account, such as the patient type and their immunization schedule. The following are some examples of the type of alternate workflows you may encounter:
- An immunization was entered erroneously.
- To keep immunization schedules current and perform catchup when necessary, you need to reconcile patients’ imported Immunizations data from registry with their current immunizations data from the patient chart.
- A user needs to access Vaccine Inventory or Vaccine Billing while creating an Immunization order but only has limited access to File Maintenance.
- A Patient has no Previously Documented Immunizations.
- Reporting an adverse event.
