Attaching VIS Documents to a Vaccine Item

You can associate (attach) VIS documents to the appropriate vaccine. You need to attach VIS documents for vaccines if the VIS document is published in a language other than English, or if a VIS document has been updated.

Based on Immunization Requirements Spec 1.5, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has assigned 2D barcodes to the VIS documents. All VIS documents added after April, 2012 contain a 2D barcode. To support this initiative by the CDC, when you upgrade to NextGen Version, 5.8 UD3 or later, NextGen® Enterprise EHR includes the CDC Document Type and updates the Edition Date/Publish Date for VIS documents (published in the English language only). When ordering an Immunization, the Document Type displays in the patient’s VIS History (on the Vaccines Details tab) and when the user selects to print or give the VIS document to a patient.
